An Introduction to Shotcrete Technology
Concretes are the most important ingredients after cement to design a structure. Concretes are also sometimes pronounced as mortars. The concrete is mixed manually with a suitable proportion of sand and cement. The mixture is utilized to create walls or roofs of the high rise structures. Modern civil engineering now uses a special type of mortar commonly called as shortcrete. Shotcrete is type concrete used for designing a building. Shotcrete is generally a generic term which is used for both wet mixing and dry mixing editions. During the construction of a pool the keyword “concrete” represents a wet mixing and "gunite” represents a dry mixing. These two keywords cannot be interchanged.
In modern design and construction of a civil structure the shortcrete is made to pass through a pipe. The pipe projects this mortar pneumatically with a very high speed onto the desired floor or surface. Shotcrete has the advantage that they undertake compaction and placement process simultaneously. This is possible because of the presence of a powerful force with which the mixture gets projected from the pointed nozzle. With the help of nozzle the concrete can be properly placed on any surface. The deposition is possible for both horizontal overhead or vertical structures.
