Recognizing vehicle license plates is a difficult but very necessary system. This is very useful for the automation of toll booths, the automated identification of signal switches and the discovery of traffic rules switches.

Here we propose a Rasbuese Pi number plate recognition system that automatically recognizes vehicle license plates using image processing. The system uses a camera along with the LCD screen circuit connected to a raspberry pi. The system constantly processes images from the incoming camera to detect any trace of digital plates. Upon detecting a number plate in front of the camera, it processes the camera input, extracts the part of the number plate from the image. Process the extracted image using OCR and extract the number plate number from it. The system then displays the number extracted on an LCD. Therefore, we present a fully functional vehicle number plate recognition system using Raspberry Pi.
