Mobile EEG based robots can serve as powerful aids for people with severe disabilities in their daily lives, especially to help them move around voluntarily. In this article, we offer a comprehensive review of the complete systems, key techniques, and evaluation problems of brain-controlled mobile robots, along with some ideas about future research and development issues. First we review and classify several complete systems of mobile robots controlled by the brain in two categories from the perspective of their operational modes. The following describes the key techniques used in these brain-controlled cellular robots, including brain-computer interface techniques and shared control techniques. This description is followed by an analysis of evaluation problems of brain-controlled mobile robots, including participants, tasks and environments, and evaluation metrics.
