Technology is one thing that keeps on changing to make life simpler. But, let’s take the case of charging a device, for decades, we still confine to the old traditional style of wire system. Think of a device or a system that can charge up multiple systems without all those snake-look-alike wires. The solution is to go with wireless power transfer using inductive coupling.

Wireless Power Transmission using inductive coupling, is one of the effective ways to transfer power between points without the use of conventional wire system. Wireless power transmission is effective in areas where wire system is unreachable or impossible. The power is transferred using inductive coupling, resonant induction or electromagnetic wave transmission depending on whether its short range, mid-range or high range.

The goal of this project Wireless power transmission mobile charger circuit using inductive coupling is to charge a low power device using wireless power transmission. This is done using charging a resonant coil from AC and then transmitting subsequent power to the resistive load. The project is meant to charge a low power device quickly and efficiently by inductive coupling without the help of wires.

The wires. These wires sometimes make it inconvenient to carry your phone while on charging. But now with a small amount of modification a portable wireless charger can be constructed thus making your life hassle-free. Wireless charging is also referred to as inductive charging because it employs the use of magnetic field to transfer energy. This transfer is usually from a charging station, henceforth referred to as a supply, to a rechargeable and moveable device.

wireless charger

The basic phenomenon behind the wireless charging is induction. An inductive charger uses a coil to form an alternating magnetic field in the primary winding which induces a field in the secondary coil (which is inside your cell phone) through the process of mutual induction once these two coils are placed close to each other. Hence, power is transferred from supply to mobile device via magnetic induction. The whole system can be divided into following subsystem we will discuss them all.

Abstract:

The main objective of Wireless Charger System is to charge the mobile battery by using wireless charger. The dream of wireless charging is just to be able to plop your phone on a shelf after work and have it fully charged when you pick it up again on your way out. This technology will replace cables and standardize on one interface, potentially being able to adjust power settings to charge different types of batteries.

Working:

In our Wireless charging system there are two circuits, a transmitter circuit and a receiver circuit.

The transmitter circuit consists of step down transformer of 230/12V. This transformer steps down 230V AC from main supply to 12V AC. Then that 12V AC is converted into 12V DC with the help of bridge rectifier. After that a 2200/25V capacitor is used to filter the ripples and pure DC is supplied. Then the oscillator circuit oscillates at 10MHz and with the help of transmitting coil it transmits the wireless power.
The receiver circuit receives the power through receiving coil and passes through voltage multiplier circuit (consisting of diode and capacitor voltage multiplier) and through that voltage the mobile charging is achieved.
Applications:

Wireless charging may one day replace plugs and wires similar to how Wi-Fi and Bluetooth have modernized personal communication. Wireless charging with inductive coupling uses an electromagnetic field that transfers energy from the transmitter to the receiver. Consumers are wild about the convenience of simply placing a portable device on a charging mat. Wireless charging works well with mobile phones, digital cameras, media players, gaming controllers and Bluetooth headsets. Other potential applications are power tools, medical devices, e-bikes and electric cars (EVs).

Wireless charging consists in transmitting the electrical power without wires. Wireless power transmission is a tehnology that is most used for charging the batteries of different devices such as: phones, tablets and more. Basically there are two ways to wirelessly charge a device: inductive and capacitive.

Wireless energy or power transmission is useful in cases where power line cables are troublesome, dangerous o imposible to use. The problem with the power transmission is different than that of wireless telecomunication, such as radio where the useful and small power signal must be found in an ocean of electric noise. It must provide high efficiency of energy transmission at the required levels and flexibility of power receiver positioning to the trasmitter.

In this post we will try to wireless cellphone charger circuit for facilitating a cordless cellphone charging without employing a conventional charger.

Here the cellphone is required to be installed with a receiver circuit module internally and connected to the charging socket pins, for implementing the wireless charging process.

Once this is done, the cellphone simply needs to be kept over the wireless charger unit for initiating the proposed wireless charging.

In one of our earlier posts we learned a similar concept which explained the charging of a Li-ion battery through a wireless mode, here too we employ a similar technique but try to implement the same without removing the battery from the cellphone.

Also, in our previous post we comprehensively learned the basics of wireless charging, we'll take the help of the instructions presented there and try to design the proposed wireless cellphone charger circuit.

We'll begin with the power transmitter circuit which is the base unit and is supposed to be attached with the mains supply and for radiating the power to the cellphone module.
