Web clustering Engines are an emerging trend in the field of information retrieval. They organize the search results by topic, thus offering a complementary view of the flat ranking list returned by conventional search engines. The search results returned by the traditional search engines in different subtopics or meanings of a query will be mixed in the list so that the user has to examine a large number of irrelevant elements to locate those of interest. Web clustering engines categorize search results into different groups / hierarchical clusters and display those cluster tags.
Therefore, the user can locate the desired document very quickly. In this seminar we will discuss different phases in the implementation of web clustering engines in detail and we will also incorporate some of the web clustering algorithms, their advantages and problems. We will become familiar with some who currently use web clustering engines. Some future research directions are also presented.
Grouping is the act of grouping similar objects into sets. The distance between the objects in the same cluster (variations between clusters) must be minimal and the distance between the objects in different clusters (variations within the cluster) must be maximum. In the context of web search, organize web pages (search results) in groups, so that the different groups correspond to the different needs of the user. In 1979, Van Rijsbergen introduced the concept Cluster Hypothesis in the field of information retrieval. It states that "closely related documents tend to be relevant to the same requests". Web clustering engines are the systems that perform the grouping of web search results. This system groups the results returned by a search engine in a hierarchy of labeled clusters (also called categories).
