Home automation system based on RTOS with Android
With the openness, flexibility and features offered by Android, it has been widely adopted in applications that go beyond SmartPhones. This document presents the design and implementation of a home automation system based on a compact and secure Android smartphone at low cost.
This design is based on the popular open-source Arduino prototype board where sensors and electrical devices are connected to the board's input / output ports. To improve the response capacity of the system and make it more dynamic, we have integrated an open source and popular RTOS (Open Source Operating System), the scmRTOS, which has a very small footprint in the microcontroller.
The control application that has been developed for Android devices can also be easily developed in other popular SmartPhone operating systems such as Apple's iOS, Microsoft's WP7 / 8 and BlackBerry OS. Password protection based on patterns is implemented to allow only authorized users to control the devices. Another add-on included is the integration of Google's speech recognition feature that recognizes users' voice commands to control devices.
