Voltage Swell and Overvoltage Compensation

This article describes the Voltage swell and overvoltage compensation problems in a diode-bridge rectifier supported transformerless-coupled
dynamic voltage restorer (DVR). applying conventional in-phase or phase-invariant boosting method in case of condition of swell or overvoltage, may cause a a rapid rise in dc-link voltage which may ultimately lead to the damage of the storage capacitors and switching devices, and increase the switching loss. The minimum energy injection scheme is unable to solve these problems. Here, a novel unidirectional power flow control algorithm is proposed which also considers the DVR maximum compensation limit . Using this , the problems of continuous rising in dc-link voltage can be solved. Progressive phase rotating method can also be applied. In this case , it reduces compensated load voltage distortion or discontinuity. practical design considerations of the dc storage capacitor’s rating is also described. The unbalanced voltage swell compensation simulation results and analysis is also discussed to prove the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
