What is VASTU-SHASHTRA?
 Vaastu Shastra, the science containing ethics of planning and architecture, implements construction of buildings to ensure a harmonious balance between man and nature. It contributes in creating a pleasant setting or a place to live and work in the most scientific way; captivating the benefits bestowed by the five elements of nature.

THE HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
 Vastu Shilpa Shastra, the ancient mystic science and the art of designing and constructing buildings finds its origin in Stapatya Veda, which in turns is a part of Atharvana Veda, one of the four Vedas. Vedas are not new to the other parts of the world and there have been people of all levels who have appreciated the depth, inspirations and insight of Vedic thoughts for many years. Our saints knew various mysterious and mystics of this vast universe even before western scientist could start finding them out. One of the systems discovered by them was VASTU SHASTRA.

 ELEMENTS
 EARTH (Bhumi) - Earth, the third planet in order from the sun, is a big magnet with North and South poles as centers of attractions. Its magnetic field and gravitational force has considerable effects on everything on the Earth, living and non-living.
 ELEMENTS
 AIR (Vayu) - As a life supporting element, air is a very powerful life source. Human physical comfort values are directly and sensitively dependent on correct humidity, air flow, temperature of air, air pressure, air composition and its content.
There are mainly 4 directions in geography and 4 sub directions mainly a mixture of the 4 major directions.
 North
 South
 East
 West
Sub directions
 North-east
 South east
 North west
 South west
But in vastu equal importance have been given to all the four directions.
 North- uttar
 South- dakshin
 East- poorab
 West- paschim
 North east- ishaan
 South east- agneya
 North west- vayavya
 South west- nairitya or nairuthi
TYPES OF PLOTS:-
 SQUARE PLOT
It imparts wealth, prosperity and well being.
 HEXAGONAL PLOT
It dispels ill omens and is beneficier.
RECTANGULAR PLOTS:
 These plots are also called ‘AYUDHA’ plots. This brings more fortunes and riches to the occupants. But, the length should be in the proper ratio of 2:1 to width. If the length is more than twice the width, then plots are not auspicious, as there will be imbalance of Cosmic Energy in the plot.
Square Plots:
 If the four sides are equal like a square, it is called a square plot. These plots are called as CHADUSTAKONA PLOTS. This is best suited for any construction. These plots have maximum magnetic and Cosmic Energy. There plots bring happiness, riches and health to the occupants.
VASTU FOR A RESIDENCE
 House structure is the main and important one in Vaastu shashtra. Because if the house construction is weak, vaastu also weak, if house construction is strong, vaastu also works strong.

INITIAL NORMS FOR PLANNING A RESIDENCE
The first brick of the foundation should be laid in the north or east part of the house. One should never start digging the plot from the south or west or southwest. The first room to be constructed should be at southwestern side.
The house should be open from all sides, that means it should not be adjacent to any other house, i.e. no two houses should have a common wall.
While constructing the house all the heavy and permanent items should be placed in the southwest corner of the building or plot.

 Master bedroom
 Children’s bedroom.
 Toilet.

VAASTU FOR LIVING ROOM
 A living room, also known as sitting room (especially in the UK), lounge room or lounge (in the United Kingdom and Australia), Hall (especially in India)is a room for entertaining guests, reading the books, watching TV or other activities.
 The owner of the house has to sit at the chair or sofaset, facing should be towards east or north, and guests, panchayatdhars, litigents, partners should sit and thier face should be towards south or west, this type of sitting will leads victory on your discussions, finally give success on Panchayats (Litigations).
GUEST ROOM
 The suitable and best way for the guest room is Vayavya corner. This is the correct place for guest room as per vastu shastra .
guest room should not be constructed at Nairuthi block or at Eshan block, these two direcions are not safe and good for guest rooms. The final direction is agneya portion of block. If you dont have interest or place to construct the guest room at vayavya corner or block then select the Agneya Block or Portion.
DINING ROOM
Dining room is another important part of the house which should be carefully planned. It is always good to have the dining room. Nearer the kitchen or even attached to it. In the Process, care should be taken to place it either at the Southeast corner or the Northwest corner or even Northeast corner of the house. Kitchen should not be placed at Southwest corner of the house. Such a position obstructs one's financial growth and leads to health problems.
 It is most profitable to have the dining room in the west side of the building. If it is in the east or the north it is tolerably good.
 The dining hall should have a door in the east, the north or the west. There should be no arches.
POOJA ROOM
The pooja room should be at the Northeast.
The pooja room can be constructed at the Brahmasthan also which will give very good results.
God should face East or West direction in the pooja room for getting their blessings.
The picture of Gods casually hung on the walls of the house can be facing any direction. The photos and idols of god to be worshipped in the pooja room are to face either the East or the West. The person performing the pooja should either face the East or the North.
VAASTU PLAN FOR POOJA ROOM
 SOME IMPORTANT HINTS:
 Pooja room should not be in the bedroom
 Pooja room should not be above electrical appliances or gas stoves
 Pooja room should not touch the same wall as the toilet
 Pooja room should not be opposite bathroom or toilet.
Pooja room should be clean and neat avoid dirt or clutter and keep it fragrant..
BEDROOM VASTU SHASTRA :
 It is best to have the bedrooms in the south ,south west (nairuthi) and west. At no cost should the bed room be built in the northeast (Eshan ) corner, maximum try to avoid placing of bed rooms at east or north directions .
 It is best for the house owner to sleep in the Southwest room and in case not possible in the South bed room or West bed room, if the owner has occupied at these southwest corner bedroom, or south bedroom, or at west bedroom then his position will raise day by day, his works will go smooth,
Direction for the head to be placed while sleeping :
 1. If the head is towards the South then, Sound sleep and lesser tensions, the health improves.
2. If the head is towards the East, then improvement in knowledge.
3. If the head is towards the West, then ill health.
VASTU FOR CHIDLREN BED ROOM :
 Young people can sleep in southeast room and youngsters can make NorthWest room as their bed room, children should sleep in southeast room or at northwest rooms only.
VAASTU FOR BATHROOM / TOILET :
 The east portion of the house is best for constructing a bathroom. The morning rays of the Sun are believed to be extremely beneficial for health, hence proper windows (of course with due provision for privacy) should be provided in the bathroom. The slope of the bathroom floor should be towards north and east so water drains to the north-east side of the bathroom. Washing area can also be used at bathrooms (toilets), in some areas toilet is being called as latrines.
VASTU SHASTRA FOR STAIR CASE / STEPS :
 The steps can be built anywhere except in the North-East towards East and the North-East towards Northdirections.
 While placing the steps in the Northern side, they should not touch the house Northern wall or the Northern compound.
 More vacant space should be left at north side
 More vacant space should be provided on east side.
 Children can have their bedroom at east and north side also.
VAASTU FOR STORE ROOM :
 Your door should preferably be in the north or east direction. There should be no door in the southwest direction. Place a window in the north, east or west direction. White, blue or yellow are the desirable colours of the tiles and the walls. Place a photo of Lakshmi Narayana on the east wall. She is the lord deity of survival.
VASTU FOR SEPTIC TANK :
 Septic tank has to be constructed as per vastu, so many in previous day has constructed the septic tank atsouth, west , southwest, vayavya corners, and the septic tank should be constructed in the paishacha area; the open area all around the building. It should not be exactly in the north-east, southeast, southwest,northwest and brahamsthana.
 For modern septic tanks a pit has to be dug. It is to be in the north or east. In no other direction should it be sunk.
 If latrine is planned for in the east, away from eastern compound wall in line with the house, without touching its wall
