A conventional PC / notebook uses a mouse to operate and control all of its applications. As a PC mouse is connected to the system, one has to sit close to the PC to operate it. This becomes very tedious when the PC is used for presentation purposes (when using a projector). In this proposed system, the TV remote control can be used as a wireless mouse, and the user does not need to operate the PC sitting near it.
A typical television sends coded infrared data read by an infrared sensor connected to a microcontroller in the 8051 family. This data thus received by the microcontroller sends it to the COM port of a PC through a level shift IC. This IR code is traditionally code RC5 followed by some manufacturers. Software called PC remote is used in the PC that recognizes the data received from the microcontroller through the COM port and performs the required operation.
The numbers assigned to the TV remote control are used to move the cursor up and to the right. Features such as left-click and right-click can also be performed with the TV's remote control. In addition, this project can be improved through Bluetooth / RF technology to overcome the traditional drawbacks of infrared line of sight.
