Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) is a public transportation passenger transport company based in Uttar Pradesh, India, which operates state-of-the-art interstate bus service. UPSRTC is a public transportation passenger transport company providing services in the state of Uttar Pradesh and other contiguous states in northern India. With a fleet size of more than 11,851 buses operating more than 3 million kilometers to meet the travel needs of more than 1.4 million people and earn more than Rs.70 million dollars every day. Providing adequate, efficient, well coordinated, comfortable and economical services to our passengers, while earning enough for self-sustenance and growth, is our motto.
History
Road transport services of passengers in the state of U.P. It began on May 15, 1947 with the operation of the bus service on the Lucknow - Barabanki route by the former U.P. Roads of Government. At the time of the establishment of the Corporation had a fleet of 4253 buses that were operating in 1123 routes. The miles gained from the corporation operated at that time were 228.8 million kilometers. While the total number of passengers transported by its buses totaled 251.3 million. By the end of the decade the corporation's fleet had reached a force of 5679 buses, operations had increased to 1782 routes. As a result of this increase in operations, the accumulated kilometers totaled about 395.3 million kilometers, while the total number of passengers transported was more than 449.1 million. During the IV Five-Year Plan, the erstwhile UP Government Roadways was renamed Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) on June 1, 1972 under the provisions of the Road Transport Act, 1950. The end of the VI Five years Plan saw a further increase in all operational parameters that are achieved by the corporation. With the increase of the fleet of 6198 buses, the kilometers gained of the corporation amounted to 425.7 million kilometers. During the VII Five-Year Plan emphasis was placed on strengthening the corporation's fleet. At the end of the plan period, the fleet had increased to 8161 buses from the initial strength of 6198. For 1989-90, the Corporation operated 2525 routes covering 648.6 million kilometers and carrying 471.2 million passengers. During the VIII quinquennial plan of 2722 buses were replaced by new buses however 3142 buses were auctioned and the fleet at the end of 1996-97 became 7463 buses. During the IX five year plan 2427 buses were replaced and 3785 buses were auctioned, A At the end of 2001-02 the Corporation had 6105 buses. In the Xth Five-Year Plan 5274 buses were installed and 4818 buses were removed from the fleet. By the end of 2006-07 the Corporation had 6561 buses other than 784 rented buses operated under its control. In the XIth five-year plan 4518 buses were installed and 4189 buses were removed from the fleet. At the end of 2011-12 the Corporation had 6890 buses apart from 1763 rented buses operated under its control. The Corporation has been reconstituted on October 30, 2003 with services in the state of Uttarakhand forming a separate corporation.
