LOCATION OF OAK ISLAND


Oak Island is a 140-acre island in Lunenburg county on the south shore of Nova Scotia, Canada. The tree-covered island is one of about 360 small islands in Mahone Bay and rises to a maximum of 35 feet above sea level

DISCOVERY OF THE MYSTREY

The actual discovery of the oak island money pit was done by 3 young friends.
They were named as Daniel McGinnis, John Smith, Anthony Vaughan.
The discovery was done in the year 1795 and it was been believed to be the treasure of the pirate Captain William Kidd.
After them there were many who excavated the treasure island.


History Of The Money Pit

In 1795, 16-year-old Daniel McGinnis discovered a circular depression in a clearing on the southeastern end of the island with an adjacent tree which had a system having few pulleys and rope adjustment done on one of its overhanging branches. McGinnis, with the help of friends John Smith and Anthony Vaughan, excavated the depression and discovered a layer of flagstones a few feet below. On the pit walls there were visible markings from a pick. As they dug down they discovered layers of logs at about every ten feet .They abandoned the excavation at 30 feet.

After around 8 years the Onslow Company sailed about 300 miles to Oak Island with the goal of recovering what they believed to be secret treasure. They continued the excavation down to approximately 90 feet (27.43 m) and found layers of logs or "marks" about every ten feet and the abondened thier excavation.


Current Status

The oak island is been owned by a private company
The hole is currently 200 feet deep and around 100 feet in diameter
Currently no excavations are made
Oak island is now been developed as a tourist spot and the tourist companies have developed on the island.
Special permission has to be taken before visiting to the island
