The use of PLCC in the modern electrical system is mainly for telemetry and telecontrol. Tele means remote. Telemetry refers to the science of measurement from the remote location. Different communication technologies are being used for the transmission of information from one end to another depending on feasibility and needs. Some include Ethernet cables, fiber optics, wireless transmission, satellite transmission, etc. A great deal of information travels across the earth every day and creates an essential need for a medium of transmission that is not only fast but also economically reasonable. One of the technologies that fit the criteria mentioned above is PLCC.
PLCC, Power Line Carrier Communication, is an approach to use existing power lines for the transmission of information. In today's world every home and building has properly installed power lines. Power line carrier communication - PLCCBy using existing AC power lines as a means to transfer information, it becomes easy to connect homes with a high speed network access point without the need to install new cabling.
This technology has been in widespread use since 1950 and was mainly used by network stations to transmit information at high speed. Nowadays this technology is finding ample use in the construction / home automation, since it avoids the necessity of additional wiring. Data collected from different sensors are transmitted over these power lines, also reducing the cost of maintaining additional wiring. In some countries this technology is also used to provide Internet connection.
