Basics of Serial communication
Serial data communication uses two methods, asynchronous and synchronous .
Synchronous method transfers data between two devices by matching (Synchronizing) their speed. (Clk is needed)
Asynchronous method transfers a single byte at a time.
Special IC chips made for Serial communication are:
UART – Universal asynchronous receiver-transmitter
USART-Universal synchronous – asynchronous receiver-transmitter
• Asynchronous serial communication and Data framing
Asynchronous serial data communication is used when all the communicating devices are of different Speed. The processor Read or Write a byte and go back to its normal Operation. In asynchronous method ,each character is placed in between start and stop bits .This is known as framing
