History of TFT LCD
The basic principle behind the LCD displays is that liquid crystals when stimulated by an external electrical charge could change the properties of light passing through the crystals. In the 1960s, mass production could not be possible because the early prototypes were very unstable. But a stable, liquid crystal material called biphenyl was proposed by a british researcher.
TFT LCD
TFT LCD (Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display) has a structure in which the liquid crystal is placed in between two glass plates. There need to be as many TFT glass as the the number of pixels displayed. The colour is generated by a Color Filter Glass. The Back Light has to supply enough light to generate the color and is determined by the amount of movement of the liquid crystals.
Electronic Aspects of AMLCDs
The picture elements or pixels in the liquid-crystal displays are formed by liquid crystals. They can change the direction of polarization of the light passing through them in response to an electrical voltage.
