System Based on Wireless Network Control

Abstract
Along with the development of science and technology, information technologies
have been used in many fields. Energy problem is a social focus nowadays. Energy-
saving and environmental protection is the policy of China. According to our national
conditions, road lighting system of our country is still emerging technologies. In this
paper, to reach the purpose of energy saving, it introduces an information method to
deal with the problem of road lighting. The road lighting intelligent control system is
based on wireless network control that can implement real-time monitoring for road
lighting, intelligent work without manual intervention. It also can save the energy
and work efficiently. This paper discusses the design method of road lighting
intelligent control system, which was built up by wireless personal network
technology, GPRS, microprocessor and host computers, and researched on the
system including the structure, key technologies, software design and encryption. At
last, future research plans are given

1. Introduction
As the acceleration of country urbanization, road
lighting develops quickly. However, the road
green lighting is just starting. It is important to
lower the cost, to reduce the pollution, to cut
down the energy consuming and to improve the
efficiency of road lighting. The characteristics of
intelligent control road lighting system are
different according to different time and different
areas. The TPO (Time/Place/ Occasion)
management is the requirement of road lighting,
which could be automatically and intelligent
control in accordance with the different
occasion.
Thanks to the energy-saving of high-frequency
Electronic ballast and the great potential market,
a new lighting industry has been born. Compared
with traditional ballast, high-frequency electronic
ballast is more convenient to adjust lighting and
establish control network. Therefore, it comes
into a hot topic that how realizes the intelligent
control system based on the integrated bus
control technology. Recently, there are two ways
of road lighting intelligent control system: 1)
Control by communication cable.

Communication line is set up in the control
system which is centralized control buy
controlling center. The advantage is accurate and
reliable controlling. It can take several control
schemes. The disadvantages are high cost, more
faults and hard to maintain; 2) Control
automatically, including timing control and
luminance control. It is low cost, easy
installation and simple maintenance. However,
timing control is unable to fit the environment
change, and luminance control is usually
affected by environment, what is more, they are
not enough flexible. To improve the road
lighting control level, this paper has discussed
the design method of road lighting intelligent
control system, which was built up by wireless
personal network technology, GPRS,
microprocessor and host computer, and
researched on the system including the structure,
key technologies, software design and
encryption.

2. The whole design of Road Lighting

Intelligent Control System
Every road lamp in the road lighting intelligent
Control system has the functions of controlling,
monitoring, information management etc. For
the requirements in above texts, the system is
composed of field wireless controlling net,
controlling terminal. The system whole
configuration block diagram is shown in Fig. 1.
The wireless communication net of the system
is divided into two parts: 1) The GPRS network
is used as long-distance communication net for
controlling room and controlling field; 2) The
ZigBee net is used as controlling net in
controlling field. ZigBee networks have the
characteristics of adapting network easily, low
power consumption, great network capacity,
credible communication and low cost .Therefore,
the best method of the field controlling network
is the ZigBee wireless network. It has 4,096 road
section of road lighting intelligent controlling
field (road section) and every section can have
65,535 road lighting controlling terminals(road
lamp), which can meet the quantity requirements
for road lighting in a city.

The controlling terminal of the road lighting
intelligent control system includes ZigBee
controlling terminal and high frequency
electronic ballast. Electronic ballast connecting
with controlling terminal block diagram is shown
in Fig. 2

From the frame of road intelligent lighting
intelligent controlling system, it need to be
solved to develop the road lighting intelligent
control system including terminal controller
technology, interface module of GPRS network
and ZigBee network, system management
software etc

3. The terminal controller of road
Lighting intelligent control system

3.1. The hardware design of the
Terminal controller
The terminal controller of road lighting
intelligent control system is the controlling and
actuating equipment to implement road lighting
control system. It consists of three parts:
microprocessor, ZigBee wireless module and
control module. In this terminal controller,
Freescale’s MC9S08QG8 which is a member of
the low-cost, high-performance HCS08 Family
of 8-bit microcontroller units was adopted as
Microprocessor. MC9S08QG8 have 24 interrupt
Sources, 1 serial communications interface (SCI)
and internal phase-locked loop that can let
32.768K of external clock become 8M internal
bus clock. Therefore, MC9S08QG8 not only
meets the requirement of processing speed but
also have the ability of anti-interference. Large
amount of interrupt resources and high stability
ensure reliable data transmission, working status
query of road lighting and normal operation of
whole road lighting system. Microprocessor
module implements overall control,
communication, working status query that feed
back to controlling center by ZigBee wireless
network. Wireless module adopts advanced
ZigBee technology for it has self network
building function, flexible networking, without
manual interference. And one net node can
perceive other nods’ existence and determine
connection relationship. International general
free frequency band(2. 4~2. 48 GHz ISM) is
adopted as usage frequency and direct sequence
spread spectrum(DSSS) which has the ability of
high anti-interference is adopted as transmission
method to support high network physical
performance. Above all, ZigBee technology is
the best way for the network of road lighting
control system. In practical design, Freescale’s
MC13214 that incorporates a low power 2.4
GHz radio frequency transceiver and an 8-bit
