In Indian Railways ICF Boogie is used in most passenger line cars.

The image is not accurate, but the needs of the response will suffice.

The Bogie ICF consists of two types of suspension in each bogie, a primary suspension and a secondary suspension. Both are spring type in Indian Railways bogies, but here the secondary suspension is shown as airbag suspension.

Take a look at the image above to understand the explanation given below.

Primary Suspension

The primary suspension in a Bogie ICF is through a dashboard arrangement. The dashboard layout consists of a cylinder (lower spring seat) and piston (shaft housing guide). The axle box springs are placed in the lower seat of the spring located on the axle box wing of the axle box housing assembly. A rubber or Hytrel washer is placed under the bottom spring seat for damping effect. The shaft housing guide is welded to the bogie frame. The shaft housing guide acts like a piston. The lower end of the shaft housing guide is fitted with a homopolymer washer. The end portion of the axle box guide is covered with a guide cap, which has holes in it. A sealing ring is placed near the washer and performs the function of a piston ring. The axle box guide moves in the bottom seat of the oil filled spring of the dashboard. This arrangement provides the damping effect during the operation of the car.

Secondary Suspension

In the above image there is an airbag suspension for the secondary suspension, but in most Indian Railway passenger train spring suspensions are used.

The secondary suspension arrangement of the ICF bogies is through bearing springs. The bogie strut is not bolted or welded anywhere on the bogie frame. It is attached to the bogie frame through the anchorage link. The anchoring link is a tubular structure with cylindrical housing at both ends. The cylindrical housings have silent blocks placed in them. The anchoring link is attached to the bogie rail and to the bogie frame with the help of steel brackets welded to the bogie strut and to the bogie frame. Both ends of the anchor link act as a hinge and allow movement of the bogie sling when the carriage moves over a curved track.
