Delhi Metro is a subway system serving Delhi and its satellite cities of Faridabad, Gurugram, Noida and Ghaziabad in the region of the national capital in India. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC), a state-owned company with equal participation of the Government of India and the Government of Delhi, built and operates the Delhi Metro.

The Delhi Metro is the 12th longest metro system in the world and is the sixteenth largest of the number of passengers. A member of CoMET, the network consists of five regular color-coded lines and the fastest Airport Express line, with a total length of 218 kilometers (135 miles) serving 164 stations (including 6 on the Airport Express line). The system has a mix of underground, grade and raised stations using both standard width and standard gauge. The output power is supplied by 25 kilovolts, 50 Hz alternating current through overhead catenary. Trains are usually four, six and eight-length trainer. DMRC operates more than 3,000 daily trips, with the first trains starting at around 05:00 and the last at 23:30.

In fiscal year 2016-17, the Delhi subway had a daily passenger average of 2.76 million passengers, and served 100 crore (1.0bn) riders in total during the year.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation was certified by the United Nations in 2011 as the world's first rail and rail system to obtain "carbon credits to reduce greenhouse gas emissions" and to help reduce pollution levels in the city at 630,000 tons each year.

Metro planning began in 1984, when the Delhi Development Authority and the Urban Arts Commission proposed a proposal to develop a multimodal transport system for the city. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was incorporated in May 1995, construction began in 1998, and the first section, on the Red Line, opened in 2002. The development of the network was phased, Phase I containing 3 lines were completed in 2006 and Phase II in 2011. Phase III is scheduled to be completed in 2018 (originally planned for 2016).

Rapid MetroRail Gurgaon, which opened in 2013, although it is linked to the Delhi subway by the yellow line is a separate subway system (with a different owner / operator than the Delhi subway), although Delhi subway tokens are you can use it on your network.
