Introduction to Project:
‘Student Information Tool’ a web based Information System for Vision Infotech Ltd. that facilitates easy access of information for the user’s and helps them to seek expert guidance from the faculties through the Internet. The system is fine tuned to cater the varying demands of the user’s community seeking a career with Vision Infotech courses and projects.
The system is designed incorporating a wide array of choices to ensure maximum support and guidance for the user’s logging into the site. The highlights of the system include an enquiry system, to handle the queries of the students, a registration and booking system that provides online booking and registration facilities for the users right from any part of the globe.
The user can use this system to experience a user-friendly sojourn that understands his every impulse. The users are given a wide selection of choices and he can choose any of the options according to his needs.
Using the ‘Easy Administrator’ module from the point of view of the Database Administrator by using the ‘Easy Administrator’ module develops along with flexibility –the ultimate motto of the system –. The administrator can use the facilities provided in this module to handle the various operations related to updating the Database with ease.
The Java Script in the Front-End is powered by Back-End Java Server Pages, which captures the requests from the Front-End and fires appropriate responses. The JSP on the server side with the help of appropriate drivers establishes with the Database and perform the requisite functions.
The site is developed using java from Sun Microsystems. Java and HTML are used for Front-End development. Java Server Pages and Web Server 5.1 on Windows NT 4.0 are used for the Server Side Programming. Oracle8i the powerful Relational Database Management System manages the repository of Courses, students, Enquiries, FAQ’s and other permanent information.
The Project Work has been carried out at Vision InfoTech Ltd., Bangalore.
Module Descriptions:
The system involves two parties –
• User or Student
• Administration
The user refers to the Internet users who have interest in pursuing various modules at this center. The students are the users who have registered for a particular course. Administration is an entity, which keeps tracks of the proceedings of the center. This software consists of these functionalities:
Displaying Course Details: -
This module works include the process of displaying the various details to the excited users. The Course Details are maintained in a database. This module describes all the details of the courses including course codes, syllabus, and prerequisite information.
Displaying Project Details: -
This module works include the process of displaying the various details to the excited users. The Project Details are maintained in a database. This module describes all the details of the projects including project codes, fees, and prerequisite information.
Registration: -
This module eyes on the process of Registration. The main criterion of Registration is the decision made by the user in selecting the course. The course or project module relieves the users of even a little bit of confusion regarding course or project selection. A user becomes a student after Registration.
For registration for a particular course or project there are certain constraints the student should have booked for a particular course if seats are not currently available. All the constraints are taken into account only there is seats remaining in the batch opted and the course is yet to commence. When any of the above constraints have been met the registration process is allowed to continue. The users will be requested to fill the registration panel, which consists of all details related to the user. The user is made to input data regarding the mode of payment and payment details immediately in the registration process itself. He is given the option of paying by Demand Draft or Cheque or Cash. All the Bank details are taken from the user. Moreover before booking or registration for a course or project, the database is checked with the qualification details entered by the user in the appropriate form.
Once the user is registered he is awarded a Registration number, which is combination of batch opted on a particular course and the total number of students in the batch. After registration the user is a student.
Booking: -
This module keeps track of the users who are not yet made their mind to register but are very keen in pursuing the course or project. The booking module levies some condition, which must duly fulfilled by the user before booking for a particular course or project.
The booking module takes care of reserving a seat for the booked user provided the batch opted by the user has balance seats. Therefore booking can be termed as an intermediary between user and student. As the user books a seat, in a batch, he is provided with a booking number, which can be made use in future during the registration.
Enquiries: -
This module comes in picture when the user wants to send queries or requests or suggestions to the center. This module passes the message sent by the user directly to the Vision Infotech Web server. The administration has the privilege to view the various queries and make a decision to include them in the FAQ module.
FAQ’s: -
This module has to take care of the FAQs being published on the net. The administrator goes through the various queries, which comes in the ‘Enquiries’ stage. The administrator duly appends these queries into FAQ module using ‘Easy Administrator’ program.
