Spinplasmonics
It is a field of nanotechnology combining spintronics and plasmonics. Prof. Abdulhakem Elezzabi at the University of Alberta in Canada created this field. light waves couple to electron spin states in a metallic structure in a spinplasmonic device. The simplest spinplasmonic device consists of a bilayer structure made from magnetic and nonmagnetic metalsThis minute nanometer scale interface between such metals is what gives rise to an electron spin phenomenon. applying a weak magnetic field can manipulate The plasmonic current is generated by optical excitation. Electrons with a specific spin state can cross the interfacial barrier, but those with a different spin state are blocked from passing. . Essentially, switching operations are performed with the electrons spin and then sent out as a light signal.
Spinplasmonic devices have high speed, miniaturization, low power consumption, and multifunctionality.the interaction between atomic spins realigns the magnetic moments. On a lengthscale that is less than a single magnetic domain size. smaller spinplasmonics devices are expected to be more efficient in transporting the spin-polarized electron current which is unlike the semiconductor based devices.

Spinplasmonics: a new route for active plasmonics
For the active control of a plasmonic system at the quantum level: the electron spin has been proposed. By manipulating the far infrared wavelength optical energy in the near-field,it is shown that that electron spin can influence near-field mediated light propagation through a spintronic medium consisting of a dense ensemble of bimetallic ferromagnetic (F)/nonmagnetic(N) microparticles. ferromagnetic particles with nonmagnetic nano-layers is the metallic medium under study and they resemble a rudimentary spinplasmonic device that can be both optically and magnetically activated. Far infrared light transmission through the spinplasmonic medium shows very strong magnetic field dependent attenuation and optical phase retardation of the transmitted far infrared light pulses. This large attenuation is due to the interface resistance resulting from dynamic electron spin accumulation in N as spin-polarized electrons are optically driven from the F layer to the N layer. The novel devices using spin plasmonics depends on the demonstration of spin-dependent light propagation.
