A shading language is a graphics programming language adapted to the programming of shading effects (characterization of surfaces, volumes and objects). Such language forms usually consist of special data types, such as "color" and "normal". Due to the variety of target markets for 3D computer graphics, different shading languages have been developed. Languages used in offline rendering produce the highest image quality. The properties of the material are totally abstracted, little programming ability and no hardware knowledge is required. These types of shaders are often developed by artists to get the correct "look", as well as texture mapping, lighting and other facets of their work.
Processing these shaders takes a long time. The computational power required can be expensive because of its ability to produce photorealistic results. Most of the time, production processing runs on large computer clusters.
