Taking advantage of the human capacity to remember minute details of the face. Identifying offenders at a crime scene can be achieved in many ways such as fingerprinting, DNA mapping or eyewitness accounts. Of these methods eyewitness accounts are preferred because the scrutiny is placed in court and is a cost-effective method. It is possible that witnesses to a crime have seen the criminal, although in most cases it may not be possible to see the face of the perpetrator completely.
In most crimes, offenders can wear a mask that covers most of their face, can force and blind victims, or confine victims to a room before committing crimes. In other cases, a witness may simply notice the perpetrator of a passing glance and, therefore, may not be able to remember many facial details. In such cases it is useful to show witnesses slices of the face such as the nose, ears, lips, eyes. Etc to see what triggers memory.
The Criminal Face Detection System will be built from an existing criminal database. High resolution images of the criminal database will be cut into different components and flashed in front of the witness. Witnesses can recall specific characteristics and see high resolution images of them will help identify the perpetrator of a crime. Each image cut will connect to a criminal profile and therefore can give a vital clue in difficult criminal investigations. In case a witness can not point definitively to a criminal face, the system will also allow the generation of a possible face for the offender using the sliced images available in the system.
