An electrical power system is a network of electrical components deployed to supply, transfer, store and use electrical energy. An example of an electrical power system is the network that provides power to an extended area. A grid power system can be broadly divided into the generators that supply the energy, the transmission system that transports the energy from the generation centers to the load centers and the distribution system that feeds the energy to the houses and nearby industries. Smaller energy systems are also found in industry, hospitals, commercial buildings and homes. Most of these systems are based on three-phase AC power, the standard for large-scale transmission and distribution of power throughout the modern world. Specialized energy systems that are not always based on three-phase AC power are found in airplanes, rail systems, ocean liners and automobiles.
