The high-performance ARM® processors allow device manufacturers to perform many advanced video functions in software running on the ARM processor, removing the need for a dedicated video engine and thus saving on production costs. Software vendors in ARM Connected Community provide products which implement the popular MPEG-2, MPEG-4, VC1, WMV formats.
With the introduction of ARM's NEON SIMD technology, the NEON SIMD engine can significantly speed up video operations such as deblocking and deringing, and performing filter operations such as FFT, FIR, IIR etc.
