The use of the solar panel to convert the energy of the sun into electric is very popular, but due to the transition of the Sun from east to west, the fixed solar panel may be able to generate optimal energy. The proposed system solves the problem by arranging for the solar panel to track the sun. This tracking motion is achieved by coupling a stepper motor to the solar panel so that the panel maintains its face always perpendicular to the Sun to generate the maximum energy. This is achieved by using a microcontroller programmed to deliver stepped pulses at periodic time intervals so that the stepper motor rotates the assembled panel as desired.
The microcontroller used in this project is from the 8051 family. The stepper motor is driven by an interface IC as the controller is not able to handle the power requirements of the stepper motor.
