Abstract
A solar refrigerator operates almost exactly the same as the one you have in your kitchen now, with the exception that is powered by both solar and conventional electricity. They are powered by solar photovoltaic arrays (solar panels) and DC or AC/DC power as a back up energy source. Made from environmentally friendly (non-CFC) materials, solar refrigerators are designed to last a lifetime, and should never need to be replaced.
Generally the refrigerators are insulated with high efficiency polyurethane foam insulation to ensure low energy consumption. Depending on your climate, you may want to purchase a dual compressor model of solar refrigerator. These compressors are really only necessary if and when the refrigerator is used heavily in hot weather. The compressor can be either remote or free standing, depending on whether you would like to flush mount your fridge in with your cabinetry or if you'd rather mount the compressor on the bottom or the refrigerator.
