Jawahar Rozgar Yojana(JRY)
*Prime Minister : Rajiv Gandhi
*During : 7th Five Year Plan
*1 Year : 1st April 1989
* Fund sharing : 80:20 (Center & State)
*Jawahar Rozgar Yojana was an employment programme which guarantees employment to atleast one person in a rural family below the poverty line.
*It came into existence after the merging of NREP (National Rural Employment Program) and Rural Landless Employment Guarantee Programme (RLEGP).
Objectives
*Provide 90-100 days employment per person below poverty line particularly in backward districts.
*Additional gainful employment for the unemployed and under employed person in rural areas living below poverty line.
*The beneficiaries under this scheme are people below poverty line (preference will be given to SC/ST for employment).
*30% of the employment opportunities werereserved for women.
*Grama Panchayats are entrusted with the I work of planning and implementation of this programme.
JRY was divided into 3 streams
*First Stream : Comprising general works under JRY and also two sub schemes Indira Awaas Yojana and Million Wells-Scheme
*Second Stream: This was also called intensified JRY and was implemented in Selected 120 backward districts.
*Third Stream: It included prevention of labour migration, drought, watershed programme etc.
*Jawahar Gram Samridhi Yojana (JGSY), was introduced on 1st April 1999 which is considered as the successor of Jawahar Rozgar Yojana.
*JGSY was merged with Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojana (SGRY) on 25th September 2001.
