What are ASICS
ASICS(Application Specific Integrated Circuit) are designed to fit a specific application. ASIC is a combination of digital and analog circuits packed into an IC to achieve the desired control/computation functionIt can meet specifications set by a specific project and it can be a digital or mixed-signal circuit.
typicalcomponents of an ASIC are:
-CPU cores for computation and control
-timing critical functions are controlled by peripherals
-data and program are stored in memories
-clocks and interface to the analog circuits is provided by the special Analog circuits.
-components like LEDs, memories, monitors are connected to the I/Os of the ASIC.
The ASIC design flow includes the following steps:
1)System requirements SPECIFICATION
2)Logic design which includes MODELING, SYNTHESIS, MANUFAC / Place & Route, PROTO VERIFICATION, LOGIC DESIGN, VERIFICATION as well as TEST GENERATION.
3)PHYSICAL which includes SIGN-OFF / Mapping, MANUFAC / Place & Route, / Configuration data
4)PROTOTYPE which includes the Proto verification. Then we go for system testing.
