As of version 7, WinGate VPN is no longer a separate download / install. VPN functionality is (and always was) a WinGate function enabled by license. To install WinGate as a VPN, simply install WinGate, and activate a WinGate VPN test, or purchase the WinGate VPN license. WINGate VPN provides the secure end-to-end connection of two or more networks, by creating private communication tunnels through the public highway that is the Internet. This allows remote users and networks to access and share network resources as if they were all on the same local area network.
To form a VPN, there must be a WinGate VPN software installation on each network that will be part of the VPN. WinGate VPN does not need to be installed on all machines participating in the VPN. An installation for the machine on each network that supports the Internet connection, or has immediate access to the Internet through an Internet router is all that is required.
As shown in the example above, the only mobile user must install WinGate VPN on their laptop to connect to the VPN hosted on the company LAN. The remote LAN of Office would only need to install WinGate VPN on the machine that has the Internet connection, so that users of that LAN can participate in the VPN.
