Vortex Bladeless S.L is a Spanish technology company that developed a multi-patented wind turbine without blades. In 2014, Vortex Bladeless won the South Summit Award in the energy and industry category for the best project.
Vortex Bladeless S.L is a wind power startup founded in 2013 by David Yáñez, David Suriol and Raúl Martín, exclusively dedicated to the development and commercialization of Vortex. This multi-patented bladeless wind turbine is capable of capturing kinetic wind energy by 'vortex shedding' and transforming it into electricity. The idea came in 2002 when David Yanez, the inventor, watched a video of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge disaster and brought him to the idea of a bladeless wind turbine. This new technology seeks to overcome problems related to traditional wind turbines such as maintenance, amortization, noise, environmental impact, logistics and visual aspects. In April 2015, Vortex moved to Boston and formed a coalition with representatives from Harvard University, IDEO, TerraForm Power and Dat Venture. The improvement of its product has been financed by the Repsol Foundation, Inversores Angels and a loan from the Spanish Government. Vortex also launched a crowdfunding campaign on June 1, 2015 to finance part of its marketing. Currently, the company focuses on the development of small wind products, with mass energy generation devices planned for the future.
