an adequate inspection and maintenance programme is required to reduce the cases of bridge and building collapses. There are some of the safety factors built into bridge designs. A comprehensive assessment programme must be put in place. The damaged bridges are classified as :at risk.
If the maintenance work is not done in time, deterioration will quicken and later the work cost will be more. The considerable part of the bridge maintenance budget must be set apart for the maintenance work to minimise this deterioration which will prevent future failure.
