ABSTRACT

Online search has become an increasingly important part of every
day lives of common people.We cannot consider web as a knowledge base unless we have
options for searching.Many search engines has evolved as an unavoidable tool for
computer users.But the limitations of these engines has evolved as an unavoidable
tool for computer users.But the limitations of these engines paved the path for research
towards a more advanced and user friendly search method and thus exploratory search
evolved.
Exploratory search is a topic that has grown from the fields of
Information Retrieval and Information seeking ,but has become more and more concerned
with the alternative scenarios of search that have received the majority of focus(returning
the most relevant documents to a Googlelike keyword search).The research is motivated
by questions likewhat if the user does not know which keywords to
use?.Consequently,research has begin to focus on defining the broader set of Information
Behaviors in order to learn about the situations when a user is,or feels,limited by only

The Web
The World Wide Web is a system of interlinked hypertext documents accessed via the
internet .With a web browser,one can view Web pages that may contain
text,images,videos,and other multimedia and navigate between them using hyperlinks.The
World Wide Web was created in 1989 by English scientist Tim BernersLee,working at the
European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN)in Geneva,Switzerland,and
releasedin 1992.

The information published on the web in a static manner(HTML).It is like your word
document on the web with pictures and formatting done neatly.Hyperlinking the web
pages and bookmarking were two of the most important aspect of Web 1.0 world.

It is clear that better tools to support exploratory searching are needed. The Net generation
will expect to be able to use web resources to conduct lookup, learning and investigative
tasks with fluid user interfaces. Exploratory search makes us all pioneers and adventures
