The Vijayawada Railway Division is one of the six railway divisions under the railroad zone of Central South of the Indian Railways. The headquarters of the division is in Vijayawada. The Director of the Vijayawada Division Railroad (DRM) Anurag, who is also the head of the Divisional Sports Association is giving priority to sports activity and is taking an interest in providing infrastructure.
"The division has good sports facilities, including a 400-meter athletic track," said Vijayawada Division sports welfare inspector N. Arjun Rao.
Giving details of the recent achievements of the athletes, Mr. Arjun Rao told The Hindu that Thirumalai Kumar, a senior reserve employee, was selected for the Paralympic Games to be held in London in August. "He will be participating in the disc-launching event."
Mr. Kumar is undergoing a training period at the Indian sports center in Gandhinagar in Gujarat for the next international event.
Prem Kumar won a gold, two silver and one bronze medal at the 33rd National Athletics Masters Championships in Bangalore, earning his slot for the International Masters Athletics Championships to be held in China in November.
In addition, S. Srinivas and Devasia Bency, M. Kalyani (kabaddi), J. Rama Rao (archery) and other players who participated in several tournaments and brought laurels to the state as well as SCR Vijayawada division.
Vijayawada Division has a mini railway stadium with a 400 meter track and providing kabaddi, volleyball, basketball, soccer, cricket, badminton ball and gym.
