The state-owned bank of India (SBI) is an Indian multinational, public sector banking and financial services company. It is a corporation owned by the government with its headquarters in Mumbai, Maharashtra. On April 1, 2017, the State Bank of India, India's largest bank merged with five of its associated banks (Bikaner State Bank and Jaipur, Hyderabad State Bank, Mysore State Bank, State Bank of Patiala and Travancore State Bank) and Bharatiya Mahila Bank with himself. This is the first large-scale consolidation in the Indian banking industry. With the merger, State Bank of India will enter the league of the top 50 global banks with a balance sheet size of ₹33 trillion, 278,000 employees, 420 million customers and more than 24,000 branches and 59,000 ATMs. SBI's market share will increase to 22 percent from 17 percent. It has 198 offices in 37 countries; 301 correspondents in 72 countries. The company ranks 232 on the Fortune Global 500 list of the world's largest companies as of 2016.

The bank traces its ancestry to British India through the Imperial Bank of India to the founding in 1806 of the Bank of Calcutta, making it the oldest commercial bank in the Indian subcontinent. Bank of Madras merged into the other two "presidency banks" in British India, Bank of Calcutta and Bank of Bombay, to form the Imperial Bank of India, which in turn became the State Bank of India in 1955. Bank of India in 1955, with the Central Bank of India taking a 60% stake, and renamed the State Bank of India. In 2008, the government took over the holding of the Reserve Bank of India. State Bank of India is a banking giant and has a 20% market share in deposits and loans among Indian commercial banks.

Cheque book request

You can request an online cheque book. You can request the cheque book for any of your Savings, Current, Cash Credit and Overdraft accounts. You can opt for cheque books with 25, 50 or 100 check sheets. You can pick it up from the branch or request your branch to send it by mail or courier. You can choose to get the cheque book delivered at your registered address or you can provide an alternate address. Cheque books will be shipped within 3 business days of the date of application.

Simply log on to the retail section of the Internet Banking site with your credentials and select the Checkbook link on the Requests tab. You can view all your transaction accounts. Select the account for which you need a checkbook, enter the number of required check sheets and the mode of delivery. Then, send the same.
