The use of satellite communication has become widespread and has spread throughout the country for applications as diverse as television, DTH Broadcasting, DSNG and VSAT to exploit unique capabilities in terms of coverage and reach. The technology has matured substantially in the last three decades and is being used commercially for a large number of applications. Most of us are moved by satellite communication in more ways than we think.
The potential of technology for social applications continues to fascinate ISRO and efforts are being made to take advantage of the benefits of technology for the betterment of humanity. Among the important initiatives carried out by ISRO for the development of society include Tele-education, Tele-medicine, Resource Center for Villagers (VRC) and Programs of the Disaster Management System (DMS). The potential of space technology for national development applications is enormous.
