High school students who are on Free or Reduced Lunch Programs may not have to submit the fees that are required by several colleges, universities, and testing companies. If you receive assistance through the the National School Lunch Program, you can have the cost to submit an admissions registration fee charged by many colleges and universities waived. In addition, you may not have to pay the testing fees for tests such as SAT, ACT, or THEA. Students must obtain the fee waiver from their counselor. Please understand that each school in the U S is given a limited number of fee waivers and these are distributed on a first come, first served basis. If LHS distributes all of its fee waivers, students may still be able to obtain a waiver from East Texas Educational Opportunity Center, but a counselor's verification of eligibility is still required.

SAT Testing Fee Waivers - Eligible students are allowed a total of four fee waivers that can be used during their high school career. Students may use 2 for the regular SAT and 2 for the SAT subject tests. These can be used either in the junior or senior year of high school. To obtain a fee waiver for either test, you must first visit with your counselor. Your counselor will verify that you are on free or reduced lunch and then give you a special card, depending on your method of registration (paper or online). If you are registering by mail, you will be given a card that you must complete accurately, entirely and have all the required signatures. When you complete your registration form, be sure to complete the form to the end, totaling your fees as if you were submitting a check or money order. Then instead of inserting a check or money order into the envelope, simply insert your fee waiver card, attach postage and mail. If you register online, you will be given a card with a 12 digit number that contains both handwritten and typed numbers on it. You must enter this number on the web registration form when prompted to do so. NOTE: You may not use a fee waiver for late registration (except for the October test) or standby registration.

ACT Testing Fee Waivers - Fee waivers may be used for either the ACT (no writing) or the ACT Plus Writing tests. Students may receive only one fee waiver in their high school career and it can be used in either the junior or the senior year. Please understand that your fee waiver is used once you register, even if you do not test and requests for a second fee waiver will be denied. According to ACT, fee waivers may not be used for late registration fees, standby testing, additional college code choices, sophomores, or test date or test center change fees. Also, unlike SAT, students may NOT use fee waiver cards/numbers if they register online. If you need a fee waiver, please see your counselor before you send in your registration form--no refunds can be made to students who have paid their test fee, even though they would have been eligible for a waiver. As with SAT fee waiver cards, ACT Test fee waivers are limited and are distributed on a first come, first served basis.

College Admissions Processing Fee (or Admissions Registration Fees) - Most colleges and universities collect a registration fee when a student applies for admissions to their institution. But most will waive that fee under certain circumstances. Students should not assume that every college or university grants fee waivers and should check with the admissions officer of that particular college campus. Persons in this position can guide you through their procedure for granting fee waivers. Most colleges will grant a registration fee waiver if you have ever used an SAT or ACT test fee waiver. Your counselor will have a special form provided by the testing companies (ACT or SAT) to use to request this admissions fee waiver. However, some colleges may provide their own forms and/or procedures. It is your responsibility to find out what is needed to request the admissions fee waiver from your college of choice. Your counselor does not have enough time to devote to the investigation of procedures used by various colleges for waiving admissions fees. He/she can, however, advise you on how to obtain the contact information for your college's admissions office.
