EXAMPLE EMCEE SCRIPT
At first they just needed me to help and I can not say no when someone asks me or help.Without any training or prior knowledge of how to handle event, I became an emcee for asporting event. I was amazed how natural it was to be a master of ceremonies and I felt guilty accepting money for having fun all morning. I was then asked to be the master of ceremonies for a formal function - an awards ceremony. I feltawkward as it was to be made in Bahasa Malaysia. I was aware of my own Bahaponunciation. I grew up speaking a local dialect and compared the formal Bahasa Malaysia to be a second language for me. To make matters worse, I did not know much about the address system used mainly in Bahasa speeches. Yes, I am talking about when to use the term Yang Berusaha, YangBerhormat, Yang Berbahagia as such. That event was successful but my lack of mastery in address system was dazzling. After a few years and many events, we have become a faculty of only one language center, I was sent for an emceeing course. That was really a big help. I learned the trade of emceeing arts. One thing I realize is that everyone has a potential to be an emcee. For many, the fear of facing the audience prevents them from venturing further. Then everyone has to deal with nervousness, but only those who can successfully control and manage can do so. External factors such as the audience, the formality of the function, the size of the room or room, the location of the function, all that play part of how well one can handle their nervousness. It is easy to say that when searching for the emcee script on the Internet, I did not find many. I also had junior colleagues hadcalls asking for a script sample of emcee commands as they were asked to be anemcee for some events. I told the Dean to move the job of master of ceremonies to the newcomers, since everyone benefits from the exhibition. But I still appoint myself to be a master of ceremonies for national or international conferences, especially when an emcee is needed to handle the event in English. So my intention for this post is to actually share some of the emcee scripts that are in mycollection over the years. To begin with, I upload one from last weekend.
