The definition of agricultural marketing (3 November, 08 may)

According to the National Commission on Agriculture "Rural marketing is a process that begins with a decision to obtain farm product, and it includes all aspects of the market system, and includes pre-and post-harvest operations I.e., assembling, sorting, storage, transportation and distribution".

Country profile/features of the rural market in India (November 08)

Large and scattered the market: according to the Census of 2001, the rural population accounts for 72% of the total population and is scattered in a wide range of geographical area.
Different socio-economic situation: It is different in different parts of the country and brings the diversity in rural markets.
Changing the structure of demand: the demand picture rural client is changing rapidly due to increased incomes and credit services offered by banks, as "KISAN credit card".
The main income from agriculture: about 60% of the rural incomes from agriculture and, consequently, the demand for consumer goods is high for the season.
Saving habits: rural consumers now have savings habits, thanks to the efforts of cooperative and commercial banks.
Traditional view: rural consumer values of old customs and traditions.
Low standard of living: rural consumer have a low standard of living due to low literacy rates, low per capita income and social backwardness.
Poor infrastructure facilities: Facilities as roads, warehouses, communications systems, etc. are insufficient in rural areas. Thus, physical distribution is costly.
Media extension: coverage of MEDIA pint 10%, followed by TV, radio, 31% 31% and 33% of cinema.

Although India has the fourth largest railway system in the world, many villages remain outside the railway network. Many villages have only kaccha roads while many rural roads are not completely Interior. Because of this physical distribution is difficult in rural areas.
Problems of communication: communication infrastructure consisting of posts, Telegraphs, and telephones was insufficient.
Storage problems: Central Warehousing Corporation and State Warehousing Corporation does not extend their services to rural areas. Warehouses at the Mandi managed cooperatives that provide services to members only.
Many languages and dialects: the number of languages and dialects vary widely from State to State, region to region and even from area to area.
