Introduction
Repair and resurfacing of runway is a complex activity, which requires comprehensive engineering evaluation, selection of suitable materials commensurate to problems and proper co-ordination of construction procedure, and activities. It also demands setting up adequate quality planes and quality assurance methods .For runway resurfacing it is required to determine the nature and extent of deterioration and also the causes of deterioration. For this it is essential to carryout detailed study including overall projection evaluation so as to evolve suitable repair alternatives.so this paper is to make an attempt to bring out certain salient features of planning and execution of Runway Resurfacing work based on a case study

Airport Runway Resurfacing Project
a major project is carried out to resurface and
rehabilitate its main runway in the edinborough airport. This is done for renewing the life of the runway for at least 10 years. Some homes nearby will experience aircraft noise due to the change of timings due to aircport resurfacing. This increase in traffic has placed greater pressure on the main runway and
combined with its age, has left the runway requiring increasing amounts of
maintenance.resurface the runway is done to ensure that the airport can be continue to be used in the future. But the main airport runway is entirely safe to use and regular inspections are done on the runway. the main runway is also closed for ten days in the
spring and ten days in the autumn to carry out maintenance.

The resurfacing will be a massive project,
costing £16 million and will will renew the lifespan of the runway for at least another ten years. It will take 150 workers and over 130,000 man hours. 25,000 tonnes of asphalt will be required and a little over 1,000 runway lights will be replaced.When the when resurfacing is being
undertaken, the runway will be closed to all aircraft movements. The project will last for approximately eight months.
