RED TACTON ( Human Area Network).
ABSTRACT

Technology is making many things easier; I can say that our concept is standing example for that. So far we have seen LAN, MAN, WAN, INTERNET & many more but here is new concept of “ RED TACTON ” which makes the human body as a communication network by name .... HAN (Human Area Network).
NTT lab from Japan is currently testing & developing this revolutionary technology .RedTacton is a new Human Area networking technology that uses the surface of the human body as a safe, high speed network transmission path. Red Tacton uses the minute electric field generated by human body as medium for transmitting the data. The chips which will be embedded in various devices contain transmitter and receiver built to send and accept data in digital format. The human body shunts most of electricity to ground resulting in weak electric field that can be modulated to carry signals. As the receiver is located on the part of the body, the components of a hands free handset or in an acquaintance PDA as it senses modulation in the electric field the receiver decodes them to recover the data. . Human Area Network is an important over current wireless technologies such as Bluetooth because users can narrowly limit signal recipients rather than broadcasting to all devices within given range.
In this paper we will discuss about red tacton, and its working States, and Applications of red tacton various fields. And we will compare our red tacton with the Other technology for data transmission. And know about human area network.

RedTacton
RedTacton is a Human Area Networking technology, which is under development, that uses the surface of the human body as a safe, high speed network transmission path. It is completely distinct from wireless and infrared technologies as it uses the minute electric field emitted on the surface of the human body.
A transmission path is formed at the moment a part of the human body comes in contact with a RedTacton transceiver. Communication is possible using any body surfaces, such as the hands, fingers, arms, feet, face, legs or torso. RedTacton works through shoes and clothing as well. When the physical contact gets separated, the communication is ended.
Using RedTacton-enabled devices, music from a digital audio player in your pocket would pass through your clothing and shoot over your body to headphones in your ears. Instead of fiddling around with a cable to connect your digital camera to your computer, you could transfer pictures just by touching the PC while the camera is around your neck. And since data can pass from one body to another, you could also exchange electronic business cards by shaking hands, trade music files by dancing cheek to cheek, or swap phone numbers just by kissing.
Features
RedTacton has three main functional features:
 Touch - Touching, gripping, sitting, walking, stepping and other human movements can be the triggers for unlocking or locking, starting or stopping equipment, or obtaining data.
 Broadband and Interactive - Duplex, interactive communication is possible at a maximum speed of 10Mbps. Because the transmission path is on the surface of the body, transmission speed does not deteriorate in congested areas where many people are communicating at the same time.
 Any media - In addition to the human body, various conductors and dielectrics can be used as transmission media. Conductors and dielectrics may also be used in combination.
Comparison with other network technologies
The focus on ubiquitous service has brought about the shortening of distances in communication. RedTacton is positioned as the last 1m solution to ultimate close-range communication. Wireless communication creates connections when signals arrive, allowing for easy connections because connectors are unnecessary. However, seen from another aspect, the arriving signals can be intercepted, so security becomes an issue. Wired communication transmits data between two connection points, so interception is difficult and security can be considered to be high. However, connectors and cables are a nuisance. Taking the above points in account, RedTacton is situated directly between wireless and wired communication.

REDTACTON:-
Red Tacton is a new Human Area Networking technology that uses the surface of the human body as a safe, high speed network transmission path. Red Tacton uses the minute electric field emitted on the surface of the human body. Technically, it is completely distinct from wireless and infrared .A transmission path is formed at the moment a part of the human body comes in contact with a Red Tacton transceiver. Physically separating ends the contact and thus ends communication Using Red Tacton, communication starts when terminals carried by the user or embedded in devices are linked in various combinations according to the user's Communication is possible using any body surfaces, such as the hands, fingers, arms, feet, face, legs or torso. Red Tacton works natural, physical movements.
Working principle :-
Using a new super-sensitive photonic electric field sensor, Red Tacton can
achieve duplex communication over the human body at a maximum speed of 10 mbps The Red Tacton transmitter induces a weak electric field on the surface of the body. The Red Tacton receiver senses changes in the weak electric field on the surface of the body caused by the transmitter .Red tacton relies upon the principle that the optical properties of an electro-optic crystal can vary according to the changes of a weak electric field. Red Tacton detects changes in the optical properties of an electro-optic crystal using a laser and converts the result to an electrical signal in a optical receiver circuit. The transmitter sends data by inducing fluctuations in the minute electric field on the surface of the human body. Data is received using a photonic electric field sensor that combines an electro-optic crystal and a laser light to detect fluctuations in the minute electric field.
The naturally occurring electric field induced on the surface of the human
body dissipates into the earth. Therefore, this electric field is exceptionally faint and unstable. The photonic electric field sensor developed by NTT enables weak electric fields to be measured by detecting changes in the optical properties of an electro-optic crystal with a laser beam.
FEATURES:-
1. TOUCH:-

Touching, gripping, sitting, walking, stepping and other human movements can be the triggers for unlocking or locking, starting or stopping equipment, or obtaining data. using Red Tacton, communication starts when terminals carried by the user or embedded in devices are linked in various combinations through physical contact according to the human's natural movements.
2.BROADBAND & INTERACTIVE
Duplex, interactive communication is possible at a maximum speed of 10Mbps. Because the transmission path is on the surface of the body, transmission speed does not deteriorate in congested areas where many people are communicating at the same time .Taking advantage of this speed, device drivers can be downloaded instantly and execute programs can be sent.
3.ANY MEDIA
In addition to the human body, various conductors and dielectrics can be used as transmission media. Conductors and dielectrics may also be used in combination.
DI ELETRICS CONDUCTORS
(Signals pass through materials) (Signals travel along surface)
A communication environment can be created easily and at low-cost by using items close at hand, such as desks, walls, and metal objects. But there is one limitation on
the length of the conductor to be propagated, on installation locations, and on the thickness of the dielectric to be passed through.
Application fields
Many application using Red Tacton are introduced. Some are:
• An alarm sound automatically to avoid accidental medicine ingestion: -Red tacton devices embedded medicine bottles transmit information on the medicines' attributes. If the user touches the wrong medicine, an alarm will trigger on the terminal he is carrying. The alarm sounds only if the user actually touches the medicine bottle, reducing false alarms common with passive wireless ID tags, which can trigger simply by proximity.
• Touch advertising and receive information: - When a consumer stands in front of an advertising panel, advertising and information matching his or her attributes is automatically displayed. By touching or standing in front of items they are interested in, consumers can get more in-depth information.
• Touch a printer to print: -Print out where you want just by touching the desired printer with one hand and a PC or digital camera with the other hand to make the page link Complicated configurations are reduced by downloading device drivers "at first touch".
• Instantaneous private network via personal handshake: -By shaking hands, personal profile data can be exchanged between mobile terminals on the users. (Electronic exchange of business cards) Communication can be kept private using authentication and encryption technologies
• Just touching a phone makes it your own: -Your own phone number is allocated and billing commences. Automatic importing of personal address book and call history.
• Just sitting on the seat triggers the car to load all its presets, just the way you like: -The seat position and steering wheel height adjust to match the driver just by sitting in the car. The driver's home is set as the destination in the car navigation system .The stereo plays the driver's favorite song…
• Connect to the network just by putting a laptop on the table: -An electrically conductive sheet is embedded in the table. A network connection is initiated simply by placing a lap-top on the table. Using different sheet patterns enables segmentation of the table into subnets.
• Wireless headset: -Red Tacton can carry music or video between headsets, mobile devices, mobile phones, etc. Users can listen to music from a Red Tacton player simply by putting on a headset or holding a viewer.
• User verification and unlocking with just a touch: -Carrying a mobile RedTacton-capable device in one's pocket, ID is verified and the door unlocked when the user holds the doorknob normally. Secure lock administration is possible by combining personal verification tools such as fingerprint ID or other biometric in the mobile terminal.
System safety:-
• No current flowing into the human body from redtacton devices: -RedTacton uses the electric field that occurs naturally on the surface of the human body for communication. Transmitter and receiver electrodes are covered with an insulating films. No current flows into the body from the RedTacton transceiver.
• Displacement current occurring in the body is small enough: -There is no current flowing from the RedTacton transceiver; however, the body indirectly receives a minute electric field. This causes electrons already present inside the body to move, creating a minute displacement current. This displacement current is similar to those occurring in everyday life.

Abstract:
As electronic devices become smaller, lower in power requirements, and less expensive, we have begun to adorn our bodies with personal information and communication appliances. Such devices include cellular phones, personal digital assistants(pdas), pagers and many more. Currently there is no method for these devices to share data. Networking these devices can reduce functional I/O redundancies and allow new conveniences and services.
Human society is entering an era of ubiquitous computing, when networks are seamlessly interconnected. The practical implementation of ubiquitous services requires three levels of connectivity: Wide Area Networks(WAN), Local Area Networks(LAN), and Human Area Networks(HAN) for connectivity to personal information, media and communication appliances within the much smaller sphere of ordinary daily activities.
RedTacton is a break-through technology that, uses the surface of the human body as a safe, high speed network transmission path. So we, in this paper are explaining the unique new functional features and enormous potential of RedTacton as a Human Area Networking technology.
Keywords: red tacton-warmth touch, electro sensor, half duplex, electro-optical crystals.
I. INTRODUCTION
We are heading toward an electronic future where information will be accessible at our fingertips, whenever and wherever needed. Some of the computing and communication equipment required to provide this intimate and immediate access to information will be incorporated into our attire. Just as a glance at today's wristwatch saves a trip to the nearest clock, a glance at tomorrow's wristwatch will replace finding a terminal to check e-mail.
RedTacton is a new Human Area Networking technology introduced by Nippon telegraph and Telephone Corporation(NTT’s) that uses the surface of the human body as a safe, high speed network transmission path. RedTacton is a break-through technology that, for the first time, enables reliable high-speed HAN. In the past, Bluetooth, infrared communications(IrDA), radio frequency ID systems(RFID), and other technologies have been proposed to solve the "last meter" connectivity problem. However, they each have various fundamental technical limitations that constrain their usage, such as the precipitous fall-off in transmission speed in multi-user environments producing network congestion.
A. What is RedTacton.?
RedTacton was introduced by Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation(NTT) who combined TACTON - “touch-act-on” Meaning “action triggered by touching” and RED - It is an auspicious color according to Japanese culture for warmth and love creating the name RedTacton. It is a technology that, uses the surface of the human body as a safe, high speed network transmission path. The study of Human Area Networking,
i.) RedTacton uses the minute electric field emitted on the surface of the human body. Technically, it is completely distinct from wireless and infrared.
ii.) A transmission path is formed at the moment a part of the human body comes in contact with a RedTacton transceiver. Physically separating ends the contact and thus ends communication.
iii.) Using RedTacton, communication starts when terminals carried by the user or embedded in devices are linked in various combinations according to the user's natural, physical movements.
iv.) Communication is possible using any body surfaces, such as the hands, fingers, arms, feet, face, legs or torso. Red Tacton works through shoes and clothing as well.
B. Features
RedTacton has three main functional features:
i.) Touch: Touching, gripping, sitting, walking, stepping and other human movements can be the triggers for unlocking or locking, starting or stopping equipment, or obtaining data.
ii.) Broadband & Interactive: Bandwidth does not deteriorate even with duplex operations and simultaneous access by many users! Duplex, interactive communication is possible at a maximum speed of 10Mbps. Because the transmission path is on the surface of the body, transmission speed does not deteriorate in congested areas where many people are communicating at the same time.
iii.) Any media: In addition to the human body, various conductors and dielectrics can be used as transmission media. Conductors and dielectrics may also be used in combination.
C. Previous Work on Electric Field Sensing
The development of the Human Area Network(HAN) grew out of a meeting between Professor Mike Hawley's Personal Information Architecture Group and Professor Neil Gershenfeld's Physics and Media Group, both at the MIT Media Laboratory. Professor Hawley's group needed a means to interconnect body-borne information appliances, and Professor Gershenfeld's group had been applying electric field sensing to position measurement.
D. RedTacton Transciever
The transmitter consists of a transmitter circuit that induces electric fields toward the body and a data sense circuit, which distinguishes transmitting and receiving modes by detecting both transmission and reception data and outputs control signals corresponding to the two modes to enable two-way communication as shown in fig1.
Implementation of receive-first half-duplex communication scheme that sends only after checking to make sure that there is no data to receive in order to avoid packet collisions.
RedTacton takes advantage of the long-overlooked electric field that surrounds the human body.
II. WORKING
RedTacton takes a different technical approach. Instead of relying on electromagnetic waves or light waves to carry data, RedTacton uses weak electric fields on the surface of the body as a transmission medium as shown in fig2.
i.) The RedTacton transmitter induces a weak electric field on the surface of the body.
ii.) The RedTacton receiver senses changes in the weak electric field on the surface of the body caused by the transmitter.
iii.) RedTacton relies upon the principle that the optical properties of an electro-optic crystal can vary according to the changes of a weak electric field.
iv.) RedTacton detects changes in the optical properties of an electro-optic crystal using a laser and converts the result to an electrical signal in a optical receiver circuit.
Multiple transceivers can be used simultaneously. This is because RedTacton uses a proprietary CSMA/CD (Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection) protocol that allows multiple access with the same medium from multiple nodes
A. Mechanism of Communication with RedTacton
The naturally occurring electric field induced on the surface of the human body dissipates into the earth as shown in fig3. Therefore, this electric field is exceptionally faint and unstable. The photonic electric field sensor developed by NTT enables weak electric fields to be measured by detecting changes in the optical properties of an electro-optic crystal with a laser beam.
B. Human Safety
The transmitting and receiving electrodes of the RedTacton transceiver are completely covered with insulating film, so the body of the person acting as the transmission medium is completely insulated. This makes it impossible for current to flow into a person’s body from the transceiver.
When communication occurs, displacement current is generated by the electrons in the body because the body is subjected to minute electrical fields. However, such displacement currents are very common everyday occurrences to which we are all subjected.
RedTacton conforms to the “Radio frequency-exposure Protection standard (RCR STD-38)” issued by the Association of Radio Industries and Businesses (ARIB).
III. APPLICATIONS
RedTacton has wide variety of applications, some of the applications are as follows:
A. One to One Services
 Enable one-to-one services tailored to the user's situation and tastes.
 Attribute information recorded in the RedTacton device is sent to the touched objects.
 The appropriate service is provided based on the attribute information received by the RedTacton receiver.
1) Elimination of human error:
RedTacton devices embedded medicine bottles transmit information on the medicines attributes. If the user touches the wrong medicine, an alarm will trigger on the terminal he is carrying.
The alarm sounds only if the user actually touches the medicine bottle, reducing false alarms common with passive wireless ID tags, which can trigger simply by proximity.
Avoidance of risk at construction sites. (an alarm sounds if special equipment is handled by anyone other than supervisors)
2) Marketing Applications:
When a consumer stands in front of an advertising panel, advertising and information matching his or her attributes is automatically displayed.

1. INTRODUCTION
Human society is entering an era of ubiquitous computing, where everything is networked. The practical implementation of ubiquitous services requires three levels of connectivity: Wide Area Networks (WAN), typically via the Internet, to remotely connect all types of severs and terminals; Local Area Networks (LAN), typically via Ethernet or WiFi connectivity among all the information and communication appliances in offices and homes; and Human Area Networks (HAN) for connectivity to personal information, media and communication appliances within the much smaller sphere of ordinary daily activities-- the last one meter. RedTacton is a break-through technology that, for the first time, enables reliable high-speed HAN. In the past, Bluetooth, infrared communications (IrDA), radio frequency ID systems (RFID), and other technologies have been proposed to solve the "last meter" connectivity problem. However, they each have various fundamental technical limitations that constrain their usage, such as the precipitous fall-off in transmission speed in multi-user environments producing network congestion. "With Bluetooth, it is difficult to rein in the signal and restrict it to the device you are trying to connect to. You usually want to communicate with one particular thing, but in a busy place there could be hundreds of Bluetooth devices within range."
Furthermore, humans apparently make poor aerials, something which is "good for security because even if you encrypt data it is still possible that it could be decoded, but if you can't pick it up it can't be cracked.
1.1 BACKGROUND
At the end of 2002 the Japanese telecommunications group NTT had announced that it would develop a new data transmission technology that uses the conductive properties of the human body to exchange information between electronic devices. With RedTacton the company has now scarcely two and a half years later presented its first prototype of a Human Area Network (HAN).
The basic principle of the RedTacton concept is the creation of minute electrostatic fields that modulated by a code-giver to carry digital information are capacitively transmitted to human skin as a conductor, thence to be transmitted upon physical contact. To read out the data bits NTT makes use of a novel type of opto-electrical receiver equipped with a miniature laser whose light ray is reflected by a crystal.
At the receiving end the electrostatic fields evoked by the RedTacton sender cause the electrical field in the environment of the crystal to change, which in turn induces changes in the polarization of the reflected laser light. These changes in polarization the opto-electrical receiver interprets as data bits, which it converts into electrical signals that can be processed by a PDA, for instance.
According to NTT this technology - which can also be made to works when door handles, switches or turnstiles are touched - allows bi-directional signals to be sent at rates of up to 10 Mbit/s. The strength of the electrostatic fields evoked the company puts at but a few hundred milliwatts. Prior to the stage planned for 2006 in which the HAN technology is to be ready for the market, NTT intends to conduct a number of field tests this summer, in which it is inviting companies with an interest in the technology to participate.
Japanese company Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) claims to have developed the first viable Human Area Network (HAN) device, enabling fast data transfer between devices using the human body as a conduit.
NTT reckons this latest advance on the wireless Personal Area Network concept - dubbed RedTacton - can transmit data over the surface of the skin at up to 2Mbps. Where it differs, though, from previous offerings, is that a RedTacton-enabled device does not have to be in direct contact with the skin - only within about 20cm.
2. WHAT IS REDTACTON?
RedTacton is a new Human Area Networking technology that uses the surface of the human body as a safe, high speed networking transmission path.
RedTacton takes a different technical approach. Instead of relying on electromagnetic waves or light waves to carry data, RedTacton uses weak electric fields on the surface of the body as a transmission medium. A RedTacton uses transmitter couples with extremely weak electric fields on the surface of the body. The weak electric fields pass through the body to a RedTacton receiver, where the weak electric fields affects the optical properties of an electro-optic crystal. The extent to which the optical properties are changed is detected by laser light which is then converted to an electrical signal by a detector circuit.
RedTacton uses the minute electric field emitted on the surface of the human body. Technically it is completely distinct from wireless and infrared.
A transmission path is formed at the moment a part of human body comes in contact with RedTacton transceiver. Physically separating ends the contact and thus ends communication.
Using RedTacton, communication starts when terminals carried by the user or embedded in devices are linked in various combinations according to the user’s natural, physical movement.
Communication is possible using any body surfaces, such as the hands, fingers, arms, feet, face, legs . RedTacton works through shoes and clothing as well.
The name Red Tacton was chosen for this technology because “touch-act-on” meaning “action triggered by touching”.

Red Tacton works natural, physical movements.
2.1 BASIC PRINCIPLE
The basic principles of redtacton are
1. The Red Tacton transmitter includes a weak electric field on surface of the body.
2. Red Tacton receiver sences changes in the weak electric field on the surface of the body caused by the transmitter.
3. Red Tacton relies upon the principle that the optical properties of an electro optic crystal can vary according to the changes of a weak electric field.
4. Red Tacton detects changes in the optical properties of an electro optic crystal using a laser and converted the result to electrical signal in an optical circuit.
The transmitting RED TACTON device changes the electric field on the surface of the body. This is senced by the electirc field sensor and the variations are given by the receiving RED TACTON device.
2.2 MECHANISM OF COMMUNICATION WITH REDTACTON
Data is received using a photonic electric field sensor that combines an electo optic crystal and a laser light to detect flutuations in the minute electric fields. The naturally occuring electric field induced on the surface of the human body dissipates into the earth. There fore this electric field is exponentially faint and unstable.
The photonic electric field sensor developed by NNT enables weak electric fields to be measured by detecting changes in the optical properties of an electro optic crystal with a laser beam.
The transmitter sends data based on fluctuations in the weak electric field induced in the body. The electric field is received using super-sensitive electric field sensing technology.
The naturally occurring electric field induced on the surface of the human body dissipates into the earth. Therefore, this electric field is exceptionally faint and unstable.
The super-sensitive electric field sensing technology measures the weak electric fields induced by the super-efficient alternating electric field induction.
2.3 RED TACTON TRANSCEIVER
Figure below shows the block diagram of a RedTacton transceiver. The signal from the interface is sent to data sence circuit and transmitter circuit. The data sence circuit sences signal and if data is present it sends control signal to transmitter which activates the transmitter circuit. The transmitter circuit varies the electric field on the surface of our body. This change in electric field is detected by the electro optic sensor. The output of the electro optic sensor is given to the detector circuit, which in turn given to the interface of the receiving RedTacton device.
3.FUNCTIONAL FEATURES
1. A communication path is created with a simple touch, automatically initating the flow of data between a body centric electronic device and a computer that is embedded in the environment. For example, two people equipped with RedTacton devices could exchange data just by shaking hands. A wide range of natural human actions grasping, sitting down, walking or standing in a particular place can be used to start a networked process.
2. Using a RedTacton electro optic sensor, two way communication is supported between any two points on the body at a throughput of upto 10 Mbps. Communication is not just confined to the surface of the body, but can travel through the users clothing to a Red Tacton device in a pocket or shoes to communicate with a RedTacton device embedded in the floor. Unlike wireless technologies, the transmission speed does not deteriorate even in the presence of large crowds of people all communicating at the same time in meeting room, auditoriums or stores. Because the body surface is the transmission path, increasing the number of connected users directly increases the available number of individual channels.
3. Red Tacton can utilize a wide range of materials as a transmission medium, as long as the material is condictive and dielectric, which includes water and other liquids, various metals, certain plastics, glass etc.
Using ordinary structures such as tables and walls that are familiar and readily available, one could easily construct a seamless communication envirnment at a very low cost using Red Tacton. (Note that constraints are imposed by the length and envirnment of the propagating conductor and by the thickness of the dielectric.)

ABSTRACT :
In an age where information is being considered as the blood of this century , the very idea of transmitting such data or information to someone very specific sends these cold waves all around our body. With so many hackers and other anti-social elements spread all around the world , secure data transmission is considered to be a myth these days. With the recent technological advancements success has been achieved to an extent in tackling the above stated issue. One such solution to this issue is the RED TACTON devices which are going to make their mark very soon. And when they are out all the problems related to secure , efficient , reliable , hi speed data transmission will be solved . yes they are going to be solved !!
The paper here unleashes the various applications that are possible through these small devices which can literally rest anywhere on the body or any dielectric medium for that matter. With a wide range of applications starting from personalization , conferencing system, security applications and many more , RED TACTON technology is a giant leap in the field of HUMAN AREA NETWORKING.
INTRODUCTION :
Red Tacton is a new Human Area Network technology that uses the surface of the human body as a safe ,high speed network transmission path .The name “TACTON “ means touch and action. The color RED signifies warm and cordial communications.
Red Tacton enables the first practical human area network between body centered electronic devices and PC’s or other network devices embedded in the environment via a new generation of user interface based on totally natural human actions such as touching ,holding, walking ,sitting or stepping on a particular spot.
BACKGROUND – HUMAN AREA NETWORK
Human society is entering into an era of an “always on” society ,where networks are seamlessly interconnected and information is always accessible at fingertips. Internet has reduced the whole world into a global village by connecting the remote servers and terminals. Ethernet, Bluetooth and wi-fi have been used to configure the LANs and have tried to solve the “last mile “ connectivity problem. each of these technologies has limitations in finding solutions to the network congestion and secure data transmission. ”HANs” make use of the human body as the high speed network ,which establishes a communications page link between people and electronic devices.
Features of red tacton
Red Tacton has three main features .they are as follows :
1) TOUCH :
Communication with just a touch or a step. A communication path can be created with a simple touch , automatically initiating the flow of data between a body centric electronic device and a computer that is embedded in the environment . for example ,two people equipped with Red Tacton devices could exchange data just by shaking hands .a wide range of natural human actions- grasping, sitting down ,walking or standing in a particular place – can be used to trigger Red Tacton to start a networked process.
2) MEDIA :
Red Tacton can utilize a wide range of materials as a transmission medium , as long as the material is conductive and dielectric ,which includes water and other liquids, various metals ,certain plastics, glass, etc. using ordinary structures , one could easily construct a communication environment at very low cost using Red Tacton.
3) BROADBAND AND INTERACTIVE :
Duple, interactive communication is possible at a maximum speed of 10Mbps.Becausethe transmission path is on the surface of the body, transmission speed does not deteriorate in congested areas where many people are communicating at the same time. communication is not just confined to the surface of the body ,but can travel through the user’s clothing to a Red Tacton device in a pocket or through shoes to communicate with a Red Tacton device embedded in the floor.
HOW DOES RED TACTON WORKS ?

INTRODUCTION
Today people can communicate anytime, anywhere, and with anyone over a cellular phone network. Moreover, the Internet lets people download immense quantities of data from remotely located servers to their home computers. Essentially, these two technologies enable communications between terminals located at a distance from each other. Meanwhile, all kinds of electronic devices including personal digital assistants (PDAs), pocket video games, and digital cameras are becoming smaller, so people can carry around or even wear various personal information and communication appliances during their everyday activities.
However, user friendly ubiquitous services involve more than just networking between remotely located terminals. Communication between electronic devices on the human body (wearable computers) and ones embedded in our everyday environments is also critical, so this has driven extensive research and development on human area networks. Wired connections between electronic devices in human area networks are cumbersome and can easily become entangled. Short-range wireless communication systems such as Bluetooth and wireless local area networks (IEEE 802.11b, etc.) have some problems. Throughput is reduced by packet collisions in crowded spaces such as meeting rooms and auditoriums filled with people and communication is not secure because signals can be intercepted. The principle drawback of Infrared Communications (IrDA) is the tight directionality of beams between terminals needed for the system to be effective. The ultimate Human Area Network (HAN) solution to all these constraints of conventional technologies is “intrabody” communication, in which the human body serves as the transmission medium. In ubiquitous services (which imply communication between electronic devices embedded in the environment in close proximity to people), if we could use the human body itself as a transmission medium, then this would be an ideal way of implementing human area networks because it would solve at a stroke all the problems including throughput reduction, low security, and high network setup costs. This concept of intrabody communication called REDTACTON uses weak electric fields on the surface of the body as a transmission medium.
Define RedTacton?
• RedTacton is a new Human Area Networking technology that uses the surface of the human body as a safe, high speed network transmission path. It uses the minute electric field emitted on the surface of the human body.
• A transmission path is formed at the moment a part of the human body comes in contact with a RedTacton transceiver. Physically separating ends the contact and thus ends communication is disconnected.
• Using RedTacton, communication starts when terminals carried by the user or embedded in devices are linked in various combinations according to the user's natural, physical movements.
• Communication is possible using any body surfaces, such as the hands, fingers, arms, feet, face, legs or torso. RedTacton works through shoes and clothing as well.
Fig 1.1 shows a typical arrangement of RedTacton
Chapter 2
WORKING and PRINCIPLE
2.1 Working of RedTacton:

The working of RedTacton is as described in the Fig 2.1.
Fig 2.1 working of RedTacton
1. The RedTacton transmitter induces a weak electric field on the surface of the body.
2. The RedTacton receiver senses changes in the weak electric field on the surface of the body caused by the transmitter.
3. RedTacton relies upon the principle that the optical properties of an electro-optic crystal can vary according to the changes of a weak electric field.
4. RedTacton detects changes in the optical properties of an electro-optic crystal using a laser and converts the result to an electrical signal in a optical receiver circuit.
2.2 Operating principle of RedTacton:
The operating principle of RedTacton is illustrated in figure 2.2. The electric field induced toward the body by the transmitter’s signal electrode is represented by Ea. The system requires a ground close to the transmitter signal electrode, so electric field Eb induced from the body can follow a return path to the transmitter ground. Moreover, since people are usually standing on a floor or the ground, electric field Ec escapes from the body to ground, mainly from the feet. The electric field Es that reaches the receiver is Es = Ea – (Eb + Ec). It couples to the electro-optic crystal and changes the crystal’s optical properties. This change is detected by laser light and transformed into digital data by a detector circuit.

INTRODUCTION
Technology is making many things easier. We have seen LAN, MAN , WAN , INTERNET & many more but here is new concept of “ RED TACTON ” which makes the human body as a communication network by name .... HAN (Human Area Network).
NTT lab from Japan is currently testing & developing this revolutionary technology .
The name chosen for this technology is derived from “tacton” meaning “action triggered by touching” combined with “red”, which in Japanese culture is an auspicious color with connotations of warmth and love, to convey the cordiality and warmth of interpersonal communications. then it became “REDTACTON”
WHAT IS REDTACTON?
Red Tacton is a new “Human Area Networking technology“that uses the surface of the human body as a safe, high speed network transmission path. Red Tacton uses the minute electric field emitted on the surface of the human body. Technically, it is completely distinct from wireless and infrared.
Using Red Tacton, communication starts when terminals carried by the user or embedded in devices
They linked in various combinations according to the user's Communication is possible using any body surfaces
The body surfaces may be any of our body parts like hands, fingers, arms, feet, face, legs .
HOW REDTACTON WORKS?
TRANSMISSION

The transmitter sends data by inducing fluctuations in the minute electric field. These fluctuations disturbs the minute electric field on the surface of the body.
RECEIVING
Data is received using a photonic electric-optic crystal and a laser light to detect fluctuations in the minute electric field.
HOW REDTACTON WORKS?
Principle of RedTacton
Block diagram of redtacton transceiver
Human area networks
Working of RedTacton
Human Safety
RedTacton uses the electric field that occurs naturally on the surface of the human body for communication. Transmitter and receiver electrodes are covered with an insulating films. No current flows into the body from the RedTacton transceiver.
There is no current flowing from the RedTacton transceiver; however, the body indirectly receives a minute electric field. This causes electrons already present inside the body to move, creating a minute displacement current. This displacement current is similar to those occurring in everyday life.
RedTacton is in conformity to the "Radio frequency-exposure Protection RCR standard (RCR STD-38)" issued by the Association of Radio Industries and Businesses (ARIB).
FEATURES OF REDTACTON
1.TOUCH

Touching, gripping, sitting, walking, stepping and other human movements can be the triggers for unlocking or locking, starting or stopping equipment, or obtaining data.
Using RedTacton, communication starts when terminals carried by the user or embedded in devices are linked in various combinations through physical contact according to the human's natural movements.
2.BROADBAND & INTERACTIVE
Duplex, interactive communication is possible at a maximum speed of 10Mbps. Because the transmission path is on the surface of the body, transmission speed does not deteriorate in congested areas where many people are communicating at the same time.
Maximum communication speed may be slower than 10Mbps depending on the usage environment.
3.ANY MEDIA
In addition to the human body, various conductors and dielectrics can be used as transmission media.
APPLICATION FIELDS
Five major application fields using RedTacton are introduced.
1.Example for one to one services
2.Examples for Intuitive operations
3.Examples for personalization
4.Examples for new behaviour patterns
5.Example for security applications
Prototypes:
MERITS
A communication environment can be created easily and at low-cost.
Communication environment can be formed with items close at hand like desks, walls and metal objects.
Reduces heavy antennas and receivers like devices to carry.
More secure than Bluetooth.
Superior than infrared technology.
Superior than Wi-Fi.
DEMERITS
It has no compelling applications that aren’t already available.
There is a limit on the conductor size for propagation.
Which has some difficulty in installing the devices.
Some threats are in power dissipation
FUTURE WORKS
NTT lab from Japan is currently testing & developing this revolutionary technology to make it more safer and cheaper.
Trying to increase the conduction space
CONCLUSION
So we conclude that, red tacton is the best technology when compared with other data communication technologies present today.
In this technology there is no problem of hackers as our body is itself a media.
If red tacton is introduced into cyber market it brings a marvelous & tremendous change and will be adopted by many more people

REDTACTON TECHNOLOGY
INTRODUCTION:
The communication system developed day by day regarding their structure and security.
A large variety of networking such as LAN(Local Area Network), WAN(Wide Area Network), MAN(Metropolitan Area Network), INTERNET and so on…… Now the new concept is called REDTACTON technology which makes human body as a communicating network called HAN(Human Area Network).
Human Area Networking is the most secure way of communicating.
NEED FOR REDTACTON:
Wired and Wireless communication have important problem called “Packet collision”. With this Packet Collision there has been lot of disturbances and time delays in the packet movement. The traffic from nodes and routers is not properly managed thereby leading to disturbances and unsatisfaction so; we developed a new technology called redtacton technology.
ABOUT REDTACTON:
@ Redtacton technology uses weak electricfield as a transmission medium instead of using electromagnetic waves or light rays.
@RedTacton that safely turns the surface of the human body into a data transmission path at speeds up to 10 Mbps.
@RedTacton transfer data to each other by means of a handshake or a slap on the back.
BLOCK DIAGRAM:
WORKING
:
The Red Tacton transmitter induces a weak electric field on the surface of the body.
It relies upon the principle that the optical properties of an electro-optic crystal can vary according to the changes of a weak electric field.
It detects changes in the optical properties of an electro-optic crystal using a laser and converts the result to an electrical signal in a optical receiver circuit.
Features:
It has “three” types of features:
Touch
Broadband& interactive
Any-media
Touch: Broadband:
Any media:
Comparison with other networks:
From figure we noticed that redtacton is placed below the all the networks so it is used as a close-range communication..
RedTacton technology
uses electric/photonic
method which surpass
the other methods in
terms of transfer
speed, communication
distance.
Advantage Over Bluetooth:
Bluetooth is radio-based technology and new wireless technology uses human body as transferring media at a rate of 10Mbps but receiving data is more complicated because the strength of the pulses passed through electric field is low. So redtacton uses a special technology called “electric field photonics”.
In busy areas hundreds of Bluetooth devices are with in the range so it is difficult to detect the signal, by using redtacton we over come such problems.
Advantages:
It is a wireless communication.
Two-way communication is supported between any two points on the body at a throughput of up to 10 Mbps
RedTacton can utilize a wide range of materials as a transmission medium, like glass, plastic etc.
it is more secure than Bluetooth and Wi-Fi
Disadvantage:
It can be useful within few centimeters
Applications:
An alarm sounds automatically to avoid accidental medicine ingestion
Touch advertising and receive information
Touch a printer to print
Instanteous private via personal handshake
Wireless head set
Just sitting in the seat triggers the car to load all its presets, just the way you like
SYSTEM SAFETY:
@ No current flowing in to the human body from RedTacton devices.
@ Displacement current occuring in the body is small enough.
