In order to reduce the usage of natural aggregate, recycled aggregate can be used as the replacement materials. Recycled aggregates are comprised of crushed, graded inorganic particles processed from the materials that have been used in the constructions and demolition debris which maybe from buildings, roads, bridges, and sometimes even from catastrophes, such as wars and
earthquakes. recycled aggregate have been used in the road
industry for the last 100 years in Australia. For the conservation of natural resources, reuse and recycling of C&DW is the most obvious way to achieve sustainability in the construction sector. recycled aggregate (RA) is produced from C&DW in modern recycling facilities, under good quality control provisions which could lead to improve its performance compared with the earlier days of recycling. Also ,the industrial and mining by-products such as fly ash, slag, limestone powders, aggregate dust, etc. are dumped in landfills which can be used in construction for its nuerous properties like durability.
studies show that a major proportion of the worldâ„¢s Recycled Aggregate is used for low-utility applications due to perceived risks and uncertainty over their performance. This fears are due to the earlier used RA which was produced manually and low strength cement and higher water to cement ratios. To promote the use of RA, it is believed that the quality of RAC should be improved by chemical and mineral additives.quality-improving additives should be abundant, safe, and inexpensive for quality improvement. PFA and new generation polymer-based superplasticizer (SP) are seen as good choices. The study here has tried to use RAC that could be used as a substitute for NAC in normal strength concrete members, and to study its fundamental properties. Attempt was done for superplasticized RAC concretes, in which new generation polymer-based SP and PFA produced to the latest European standards were used . fine aggregate and cement in ordinary and self-compacting concretes was partially filled by PFA. an aggregate by-product (red granite dust (RGD) in producing environmentally beneficial RAC was also studied.

Applications of Recycled Aggregate
1)Concrete Kerb and Gutter Mix:
the 10mm recycled aggregate and blended recycled sand are used for concrete kerb and gutter mix.
2)Granular Base Course Materials
recycled aggregate are used as granular base course in the road construction.when the road is built on
the wet sub grade areas, recycled aggregate will stabilize the base and provide an
improved working surface for pavement structure construction.
3)Paving Blocks:
Recycled aggregate have been used as paving blocks in Hong Kong.
4)Embankment Fill Materials:
The reason for being able to use in
embankment fill is same as it is used in granular base course construction.Recycled aggregate can stabilize the base
and provide an improved working surface for the remaining works.
5)Backfill Materials:
recycled concrete
aggregate can be used as backfill materials in the pipe zone along trenches after having testing in laboratory.
6)Building Blocks:
recycled aggregate has been used to produce the masonry sound insulation blocks. The
masonry sound insulation blocks that produced had met all the requirements during the
laboratory testing.
