Reasons for declining or cancelling jobs

Reason 1: The terms of the offer are unsatisfactory

You did not get the title you wanted. There is not enough wages. A restrictive holiday policy. If there are serious gaps in how your negotiations turned out, they can lead to resentment and frustration. Remember that once you accept an offer, you may have to wait until a scheduled performance review to request changes. Are you going to last this long?

Reason 2: Work itself is too difficult or too easy

You might be preparing for failure if the level of work is too complex or simple. If it is too complex, but you have talked a good game and oversold yourself, it will not take long for your new employer to discover the truth. And if the job is boring you may end up climbing the walls, looking for a quick exit.

Reason 3: You worry that you will not go with your manager

Your supervisor plays a vital role in your success in a new job. They can be your champion, or guardian of the prison. Do not ignore the few signs that the two do not get along. These irritations could flourish in major frictions if your intuition is correct.

Reason 4: Corporate culture does not feel right

How does the new workplace feel? If, for example, it is slow and quiet, but prefers frantic and strong, it might not be a fit. Ask lots of questions during your interviews about what it is to work there. Make sure you show around and enter before accepting your offer. If the setting is not correct, it may end up being ejected in one way or another.

Reason 5: The journey is too difficult

Getting to and from work should not be the most stressful part of your day. If so, you will come to work with frayed nerves and come home in a bad mood. Try the trip by testing the route beforehand, at the time of day you are expected to report. Are you tired or focused?

Reason 6: There are too many trips required at work

Traveling as part of your job can be fun. It can also become a drain if there is too much of it. So carefully consider whether the amount of travel related work is manageable for you. If you think it will not be, try renegotiating before giving your final answer.

Reason 7: Has accepted another job offer

If you are lucky enough to receive multiple offers at the same time, you will have to choose one and notify others of your decision. It is fair to the employer: they have to go ahead and select from the remaining candidates.
