The design of the reinforced concrete water tank is based on IS 3370: 2009 (Parts I - IV). The design depends on the location of the tanks, ie above, in the underground or underground water tanks. Tanks can be made in various generally circular shapes and rectangular shapes are mostly used. The tanks can be RCC or even steel. The overhead tanks are usually raised from the roof through the column. On the other hand the underground tanks rest on the base.
TYPES OF WATER TANK
Based on the location of the tank in a building s tanks can be classified into three categories. Those are:
• Underground tanks
• Tank that rests on the floor
• Air tanks
In most cases underground and ground tanks are circular or rectangular in shape but the shape of the tanks above is influenced by the aesthetic view of the environment and by the design of the building.
Steel tanks are also used especially in railway yards. Based on the shape the tanks can be circular, rectangular, square, polygonal, spherical and conical. A special type of tank called Intze tank is used to store large amount of water for an area.
The head tanks are supported by the column acting as stages. This column can be supported to increase strength and as well to improve aesthetic sights.

BASE OF DESIGN OF CONCRETE WATER TANK
One of the vital considerations for tank design is that the structure has adequate cracking resistance and has adequate strength. To achieve these assumptions, the following are made:
• The concrete is able to withstand limited tensile stresses, taking into account in this assumption the whole section of concrete including the cover and the reinforcement.
• To avoid structural failure in the resistance calculation, the tensile strength of the concrete is ignored.
• The design adopts reduced values of allowable tensions in steel adopted in steel.
CIRCULAR WATER TANK
The simplest form of water tank is circular tank. For the same amount of storage, the circular tank requires less material. More for its circular shape has no corner and can be made airtight easily. It is very economical for the smallest storage of water up to 20000000 liters and with the diameter in the range of 5 to 8 m. The storage depth is between 3 and 4 m. The side walls are designed for the tension of the ring and the moments of flexion.
