Raspberry Pi
Raspberry Pi is a series of small single-board computers developed in the UK by the Raspberry Pi Foundation to promote the teaching of basic computing in schools and developing countries. The original model became much more popular than expected, selling off its target market for uses like robotics. Peripherals (including keyboards, mice and cases) are not included with Raspberry Pi. However, some accessories have been included in several official and unofficial packages.
According to the Raspberry Pi Foundation, more than 5 million Pis raspberries have been sold before February 2015, making it the best-selling British computer. By 9 September 2016 they had sold 10 million. Several generations of Raspberry Pis have been released. The first generation (Raspberry Pi 1 Model B) was launched in February 2012. It was followed by a simpler and cheaper model A. In 2014, the foundation launched a plaque with an improved design in Raspberry Pi 1 Model B +. These cards are approximately credit card size and represent the standard main line form factor. The improved A + and B + models were published a year later. A "computing module" for embedded applications was published in April 2014 and a smaller Raspberry Pi Zero with reduced I / O and input / output capabilities was published in November 2015, (GPIO) $ 5. The Raspberry Pi 2 that added more RAM was released in February 2015. Raspberry Pi 3 Model B released in February 2016 is included with Wi-Fi on board, Bluetooth and USB boot capabilities . Most cards have between one and four USB slots, HDMI and composite video output, and a 3.5mm phone jack for audio. The lower level output is provided by a number of GPIO pins that support common protocols such as I²C. The B models have an 8P8C Ethernet port and the Pi 3 and Pi Zero W have on-board Wi-Fi 802.11n and Bluetooth. The Foundation offers Raspbian, a Linux distribution based on Debian for download, as well as Ubuntu, Windows 10 IOT Core, RISC OS and specialized media center distributions. It promotes Python and Scratch as the main programming language, with support for many other languages. The default firmware is closed source, while an unofficial open source is available.
