IC 555 has tons of applications in the day to life and that is the reason why it remains an important IC chip. This metal detector circuit uses the IC 555 chip along with an inductor to build a cheap and simple metal detector in our home.

WORKING:
The 10mh inductor in the above circuit serves the purpose of metal detection and 555 serves the multivibrator section of the above circuit. The IC 555 vibrates at a specific frequency in normal state, which in turn activates the output buzzer for the purpose of indication. You can also add an LED along with the buzzer for the indication provided enough power to drive both components.
The inductor develops a magnetic field when fed with a clock pulse. This field when approaching a metal or magnet decreases its inductance, which alters the frequency at which the IC 555 operates. The difference in the frequency of IC 555 will cause the buzzer to sound different from the usual one. Therefore, this helps the user to find the metal buried under the floor.
