The crankshaft is mounted on the frame in the st.'A 'and the grooved lever is fitted to the frame in pt.'B'. The crank and the grooved lever are connected to each other through the slide. The slider is free to slide on the side grooved lever. The upper end of the grooved lever is attached to the piston of the forming machine through a link.
Working
When the crank starts to rotate around pt.'A ', it also transmits the movement to the slider. When the slider is mounted within the grooved lever, the grooved lever begins to oscillate around pt.'B '.
As shown in the second fig. The forward stroke is making an angle while the return stroke is covered and the angle of the figure is clear that the angle therefore the forward stroke takes longer than the return stroke. Hence this mechanism is called as a fast return mechanism.
Application
The mechanism is used in the forming machine.
