The passenger transport of India for short and medium distances is essentially oriented to buses. Buses enjoy a distinct advantage over other modes of transport due to their flexibility and accessibility to a large number of towns and cities. Of the total movement of passengers in the country, 90 percent meet road transport, especially on buses. Karnataka is one of the main states of India and is located at the western end of the Deccan Plateau. In the state of Karnataka, road transport services are provided by both the public sector (which operates through Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, KSRTC) and the private sector. The KSRTC keeps the dominant ones on the local public transport service. The jurisdiction of KSRTC extends to more than 14 districts of Karnataka which also includes Belthangady taluk. There are adequate road transport facilities from Belthangady taluk to other major centers. KSRTC operates long-distance bus services from Mangolore to Darmasthala, Chikkamangalore and Hassana, which was the main mode of transportation for the local population of the Belthangady region. The private bus service is lower when compared to the KSRTC buses in the Belthangady region. There is no rivalry between the public and private transport sector in Belthangady. So most people depend on KSRTC buses for their daily transportation.
