hi I am dipraj. I would like to get details about design of flange coupling ppt. I was surfing about it and I
ended up here. I live at Chinsurah, West Bengal. I am studying in the college of Ramakrishna Mission Shilpamandira. I need help on making a report on the same.

A coupling is a device that is responsible for the transmission of operational power between two axes that rotate in particular RPM. The coupling is used to connect two different axes at its end and can slip or fail depending on the torque limit. It is the crucial part of any energy transmission and can last a long time if it is designed and maintained properly. The present study of this work is to reduce the maximum shear stress by selecting a suitable material for the coupling of flanges. For this purpose, the modeling of the rigid flange coupling is carried out in Solidworks and analyzed in ANSYS Workbench.


The coupling is a device used to connect the shafts with each other in order to transmit power and torque. In general, the couplings are used for connecting shaft units that are manufactured separately. Such as engine and generator; Electric motor and centrifugal pump etc. Due to the inconvenience in the transport of the longest axis, it is necessary to join two or more axes by coupling. The axles that are connected by coupling must be easy to assemble and disassemble for the purpose of repair and alterations. Severe failure due to shearing of the bolt head, wrench head, nuts, and other protruding parts can cause accidents. Therefore, it must be covered by properly fitting flanges or providing guards. The shaft to be connected by the coupling can have collinear axes, intercept shafts or parallel shafts with a small distance between them.

Rigid flange couplings are designed for heavy loads or industrial equipment. By joining shafts inside a machine, mechanics can choose between flexible and rigid couplings. The connection methods for flange couplings are usually very strong due to the pressure of the material or the sometimes hazardous nature of materials passed through many industrial piping systems. This project deals with the analysis of tensions of rigid flange couplings subjected to static loads using ansys.
