PREFACE
At very outset of the prologue it becomes imperative to insist that vocational training is an integral part of engineering curriculum. Training allows us to gain an insight into the practical aspects of the various topics, with which we come across while pursuing our B.Tech i.e. vocational training gives us practical implementation of various topics we already have learned and will learn in near future. On my part, I pursued six weeks training at ERICSSON Gurgaon. The training involved a study of various departments of the organization as per the time logically scheduled and well planned given to us.
GSM, the Global System for Mobile communications, is a digital cellular communications system which has rapidly gained acceptance and market share worldwide, although it was initially developed in a European context. In addition to digital transmission, GSM incorporates many advanced services and features, including ISDN compatibility and worldwide roaming in other GSM networks. The advanced services and architecture of GSM have made it a model for future third-generation cellular systems. This report will give an overview GSM, the system architecture, the geographical structure, the radio transmission structure and the signaling function architecture.
We also have gone through the ERISSON organization structure, processes, tools and Ways of working..
I have tried to present this report with all valuable information and knowledge that I got from training in a brief and without error.
SUMMARY
The development in the GSM technology is remarkable achievement and phenomenal technological advance in the history of mankind. GSM, the Global System for Mobile Communication, is a set of ETSI standards specifying the Infrastructure for a digital cellular service. GSM is a very vast subject which cannot be covered in such a short report. That is the reason, my effort must be considered as just an introduction to the GSM technology, frequency limits and some other important specifications are given. Cellular system is introduced with emphasize on the cells, their types. The network areas of the GSM are also explained.
The discussion on the radio aspects of the GSM was there to make channel concept clear The GSM architecture is the heart of this report, the GSM services and function are stated in the brief form. The services include three main headings; teleservices, bearer services and the supplementary services. The advantages and characteristics associated with the GSM technology.
There in a brief introduction on the various department as mentioned in ERICSSON for handling the operating and network system with the help of flow chart on Global Service Center.
Preventive Maintenance, as the name suggests, includes the activities that are meant for the prevention of avoidable outages. PM team has got their responsibility area in four domains: BSS, NSS, IN and OSS. Customers handled currently by them are PAN INDIA Bharti(15 circles ), IDEA MUMBAI, Etisalat Mumbai and Delhi Taking regular health checkups of the nodes as per the health check list provided by Back Office. Health checkups divided in two types: Daily and fortnightly for BSS & NSS Node and Daily & Weekly health checkups for OSS. Resolve above 80% of the TTs raised by themselves and remaining are being raised to the concerned teams.TT based on BSS raised to L1 Fault Management and OSS to the Back Office. Raise Work Orders to Field team when field intervention is required. Transferring CP backups of nodes to DAT/DVD (external storage) on weekly basis
COMPANY PROFILE
It all began in the year 1876, in 13-square meter repair workshop for telegraph instruments in downtown Stockholm.30-year-old mechanic Lars Magnus Ericsson laid the foundation for one of the world's leading telecommunication companies with his former work colleague Carl Johan Anderson
The shop was in central Stockholm (No. 15 on Drottninggatan, the principal shopping street) and repaired foreign-made telephones. In 1878 Ericsson began making and selling his own telephone equipment. His phones were not technically innovative, as most of the inventions had already been made in the US. In 1878, he made an agreement to supply telephones and switchboards to Sweden's first
Telecom operating company, Stockholm’s all manna Telefonaktiebolag.
OWNERSHIP OVER THE YEARS
The company was run by the two partners for ten years, but in 1886, Lars Magnus Ericsson took over as the sole owner. Anderson remained in the company until 1908, however, and was employed as a shop supervisor.
The objective was to limit personal liability through incorporation. Incorporation was thus confirmation that the company was on its way to becoming an international enterprise. Lars Magnus Ericsson was appointed as both president and chairman of the board.
All the companies stock, consisting of one thousand shares and corresponding to a share capital of SEK one million, was also transferred to Lars Magnus Ericsson as payment for all the company’s assets. However, he elected not to retain all the shares himself, but instead distributed 100 shares as a bonus to the company’s oldest employees.
During the first decades of the 1900s, there were several changes in Ericsson’s ownership structure. The first of these was a strategically important transaction at the turn of the century, when Ericsson acquired AB Telefonfabriken from Stockholm’s All manna Telefonaktiebolag (SAT).
This transaction created significant mutual interests between Ericsson and SAT, which was one of Ericsson’s largest customers, and led to a merger of the two companies in 1918.
After the turbulent ownership changes during the 1920s, Ericsson’s ownership structure from 1932 onward was remarkably stable. Apart from ITT, this during the 1930s owned about a third of Ericsson’s a series shares,
During the post-war period, ITT’s ownership share was gradually reduced and divested completely in 1960, when ITT’s a series shares were acquired by the Wallenberg sphere and the B series shares were sold on the international market. As a result, the Wallenberg group’s ownership share increased to about 24 percent of the A shares, while the Handelsbanken group held about 21 percent.
Ericsson contributed to making Stockholm the world's most telephone dense city by the late 1800s. Yet, Ericsson remained a world telecommunications leader. It introduced the world's first fully automatic mobile telephone system; MTA in 1956 It released one of the world's first hands free speaker phones in the 1960s. In 1956, it released the Ericofon, which was such a radical departure in styling that it has been highly collectable. Ericsson crossbar switching equipment is the mainstay of many telephone administrations around the world, and its influence is still felt strongly in such areas as mobile phones with its reputation for quality. Ever since, it has been Ericsson's firm conviction that communication is a basic human need. Ericsson is the only company in the world offering systems for all major mobile communication standards, actively promoting standardization and open systems
Here you will find many of the products that Ericsson has manufactured over the years. From the first telephones and exchanges, as well as the Ericofon and AXE telephone exchange systems of the 1900’s as well as the mobile systems and mobile phones of later times.
