With the development of consumer electronics, the demand for simple, convenient and high security authentication systems to protect private information stored on mobile devices has steadily increased. In view of the new requirements for information protection, biometrics, which use physiological or behavioral characteristics for personal identification, have been widely studied as a solution to security problems. However, most existing biometric systems have a high complexity in time or space or both, and therefore are not suitable for mobile devices. In this article, we propose a real-time embedded finger vein recognition system for authentication on mobile devices. The system is implemented on a DSP platform and is equipped with a new finger vein recognition algorithm. The proposed system takes only about 0.8 seconds to verify an input finger vein sample and achieves an equal error rate (EER) of 0.07% in a database of 100 subjects. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed finger vein recognition system is qualified for authentication on mobile devices.
Finger vein recognition is a biometric authentication method that utilizes pattern recognition techniques based on human finger vein patterns below the surface of the skin. Recognition of the finger vein is one of many forms of biometrics used to identify individuals and verify their identity. Since this vein module of the figure is serial communication supported we can easily integrate any device or microcontroller. This finger vein module directly gives the finger vein data and will be analyzed using MATLAB-DIP. Here, data relating to a particular person will be compared to the Details of the person already in the MATLAB Software program. Finally, after processing this we will give a command to the microcontroller through the serial communication that follows the protocol RS232.
