In modern manufacture and assembly, high dimensional accuracy and fine surface finish play an important role. The grinding process is commonly used as a finishing operation that makes the process stand out from other machining processes. One of the best low cost methods for producing such parts is by means of a cylindrical grinding attachment on a lathe machine. In the present study a heavy duty winch with a grinding attachment was mounted. A mounting plate was loaded onto a slide after removing the post from the tool. The AC motor is used to drive the grinding wheel. The wheel was mounted on ball bearings with a protrusion. The chosen grindstone is with aluminum oxide abrasives. The required speed can be achieved by arranging the pulley drives. The prepared work mounted between the centers of the chosen lathe machine. Cross-feed cylindrical grinding is used for finishing components that are driven by a lathe. The surface finish obtained on the heavy duty winch was modeled against various parameters, such as working speed; Transverse feed rate and cut depth. Improvement in the surface finish of the workpieces leads to increased corrosion resistance, fatigue resistance and reduced power loss due to friction. The optimization of the parameters is done by Regression Analysis. The outputs are subjected to Regression Analysis and the optimum values are reached.
